Hey guys, what are you all downloading at right now? My cable company just revised all their service plans so I decided to upgrade. I went from 128kbps service for $25/month to 1024kbps for $40/month. I ran a performance test at TOAST.net and clocked 1018kbps for the graphics and text test. How does this compare with the rest of you? My brother is on Time Warner's Roadrunner and I'm waiting for him to get home from work to see what kind of speeds he gets.

I used up my free tests for the month.

On average I get between 2.5 and 3.0 MBits per second...about double the speed of a normal T1 line....for around $43/month (this includes the modem rental).

That sounds like a heck of a deal Guy.

My customers that are on cable, are paying 40 for 256Kb/s the service is a little fater than advertised right now, but as they get more users it will get wors I'm sure.

I'm on satellite, and pay 60 for 700.

It's expensive, but my only choice out here in the boonies.

I can get up to 1000 some times, but 700 is more like it.

Wow, some of you guy's connections are faster than Monkeyboy's Teckottie:eek2: Well my 1024kbps is a heck of a lot better than the 128kbps I was using 2 hours ago. My cable company told me that right now the speeds are a little down for the "Mega" subscribers because not all the servers have been installed. All new "Mega" subscribers and all old subscribers on the "Bronze Package" and above were automatically upgraded so everyone is on one server right now. The cable company said that over the next few days once all the servers are installed my speed should pick up a little more but I'm not going to be seeing the speeds you guys are!

I hope this link works. I tested at 4494K. That's pretty good right? I have cable with optimum online.
http://www.toast.net/performance/results.asp?testtype=4&loadtime=1.344

That first test was image and text combined. This next text was image only and it came out a little slower at 3419K
http://www.toast.net/performance/results.asp?testtype=2&loadtime=0.969

Wow, I just did the text only test and it was only 1939K. Why is is slower to load text then image? I thought for sure it would be the other way around!

I tested on all the free servers and my speed ranged from 608KBPS to 2153 KBPS. This was for the text and image combined test. I use Comcast, unsure of the pirce per month.

OT: Anyone here uncap thier modems? Have you gotten caught?

Most ISPs cap your internet speeds, meaning you cannot upload or download any faster than your cap. They do this so they can tier their services, for example having a "Basic" package for 30$ a month that is capped at 1.5MBPS, and a "Pro" package for 60$ a month capped at 3MBPS. There is away to remove these caps from your modem, so speeds of 40-50MBPS are possible if you have a fast server you are downloading from. Problem is uncapping is illegal (theft of service), and most ISPs discover and terminate you within a day or two of uncapping. Supposedly there is a way to get around the ISP knowing but I wouldn't risk it.
