I am going to try to make a silencer for my sister's 250ex. I dont think i am going to make it with packing. Or whatever, or do i need to? Any sugeestions? I am going to do this in my metals class for sumthin to do.:) and of course to save $ on x-mas presents... ha ha j/k.

I think you'll need the packing, that is what absorbs the sound. It's cheap too. I just got some from C&D Racing for $7-8. And that was for WB packing.

Sounds like a cool project, I haven't heard of anyone making their own silencer. Good luck:)

Well like stock ex pipes dont have packing, and then with it, well I guess with out it too i would have to have a core thing in the middle. I am going to try and make it like our warrior's Big Gun. I just REALLY wanna do this. Maybe I should paten it...:p

I was thinkin taht sombody made a silencer out of a coffee can, but maybe that was a joke.:confused:

my dad made a slip on for his scrambler 500 it worked good he used fiber glass for packingit was all aluminumbut any way good luck with yours:D

I think that Monkeyboy has a coffee can silencer on his fowheela;)

monkeyboy has a YFZ450 now :eek2: he traded his Tecate in at the dealership & they gave him $2.23 minus taxes for it :eek2:

I dont think that my sparks has any packing in it either? i may be wrong. I might need to look into that.

the sparks pipes do have packing in them. you need to drill out the rivots to replace it. they say when your bike seems to be getting louder, its time to replace the packing. i have never done it though.

Ive got a Sparks with 6 inches cut off the silencer, so yes it does get louder :blah:

yeah i really don't know how loud the x-6 is since i am riding it and not following it. i have had a few of my friends say that the big gun pipe that one guy uses is just as loud, but it is more of a higher pitch and the low grunt of the x-6. who knows. i do know that the big gun doesn't give the same power though.

duct tape can fix anything. :D

i would try steel wool for the packing(its in most snowmobile canisters) , it wouldnt burn out as fast as the fiberglass, but it would be heavier... For the rivet thing just try bolts or screws or something... tell us how it turns out...
