I bought two new 1998 300 EXs back a couple years ago. They run great, but will not start if the temperature is around freezing. They are stored inside out of the weather. I told the dealer about it, and he said that after they get broken in, it will get better. Well, the are easily broken in , and no change. Does anyone know of a way to make them start easier? Is this a common problem with this model? Thanks for any help.

Search this forum for (300ex cold)

If you can't find help there then we don't know.

it could just be the model.
i have an '03, and the other day i tryed to start it. the first time since it's been cold, no we've not riden in awhile.

the point is, i got it running but it was an up hill battle. at first it would just turn over, then it would run a second or two then die agian, it proabably did that 6 or 7 time till it finally ran long to warm up. after that it was fine.

my 330 fires right up no matter wat the tempature is. get a 400ex carb and remove the choke! ;) it'll start easier

Make sure your battery is fully charged. Try putting in a #40 pilot jet. Use your choke, pump the gas a couple of times and fire it up. Have you checked your plug? Is it fouled?

300ex's are cold blooded, you just have to be patient, and use the choke and pump the gas several times, it might take a couple of trys.

Make sure your jetting is correct. I use to have trouble starting when the temp got below 50. I was running stock. Lid on, stock pipe. It would flood with the choke on and I had to work the gas to get it to run at all. It was way rich. I put a pipe on, no lid, and K&N. With a little choke it will start right up and idle fine.
