I have a brand new 250ex. I rode it nice for the first few hours. The last 2 nights Ive ridden it in the snow for about 5 hours a night and that puts alot of strain on it no doubt. So total I'd say I have 20 hours on it and I haven't done the first oil change. My question is would it hurt it to ride a few more hours in the snow or should I immediatly change the oil? Also I was puttin around a swamp last night and broke through some ice and now theres ice in the wheel wells and all over the brakes. I got as much off as I could but will it hurt to leave a little ice on there?

Change your oil, you will want to do this about every 20 hours, if not less. It will make your motor last a very long time if you regulary change your oil;)

can't hurt;) But if your breaking it in it would definitely be the smart thing to do. If you have been babying it a lot I would think you'd be fine but I'd do it anyways, better safe than sorry.

Keep that motor running good and keep that oil changed. I would not worry about the ice though.

Yes change it now.

If breaking it in you should have changed the oil & filter at about 5-6 hours, then about every 15-20 from now on.

snow dosnt put a lot of strain on the motor unless your in 5th gear going full throttle going 10 mph.....(bogging the $h^t out of the motor)-darren

20 hours on oil is really not THAT much. Your engine is not going to blow up or anything if you run it before changing the oil. Go out and have a good time on the quad, and change the oil after you come back in.

Yeah, I ended up chaning the oil. I have a friend who's dad owns a kawasaki dealership and he just went in and got me a couple quarts of kawachem oil. When I changed the oil I had a bit of a problem. I put in 1 1/2 quarts and the oil level was just a little above the round part of the dipstick (just a little above too much). So I dumped some out and still it was at the same level. I ended up dumping a good amount out several times but it was still at the same level. I tried checking it cold after I rode it a little after it was just idling. It was parked on level ground and yet each time after dumping some out the oil level was still in the same spot. So I rode it like that anyway because I wanted to go for a ride. That was a few nights ago and today my dog broke off her chain and I went looking for her with the quad and after I got back I checked the oil and it was still right at the same mark which was just a little high. I think Im just going to go get some more oil and change it again. Anyone ever have that happen?

ok..this is what you do....you put the amoun t of oil it says to put in...then you start it & let it sit & warm up for 2-3 minutes w/o driving it around & stuff....the you turn it off, then check it & thats your actual reading. ;)
