i think that that is the price you pay for using a free service. I would be carefull running anything of off Kazaa. Many a virus has originated from a dowload off Kazaa.

Eric asked a simple question about the AIM. Provide him with a simple answer. Eric pretty much summed it up--do you just turn off your speakers and accept pop-ups when you get them or do you seek out anti-pop-up software?

I run the old aim, version 5.1
The new version is 5.2 has the videos.
I had saved my version about a year ago to disk.
A aim popup wanted me to upgrade, but I said no.
I can send it to you if you want. Howard
I also run norton firewall and have it set to block cookies unless I allow them. I have most of my regular sites set to accept all cookies and not ask again.
You would be amazed how many spywares/adware/malware cookies I have blocked, and told norton to never let these cookies in again.
New Spyware pops up every now and then, and I give them the "always block this cookie and dont ask again" option.

Guy, I cleaned up the thread and reopened it.

Mofo, I only have about one or two popups for every 8 hours of internet time. Some spyware/ ad cookies slip in hidden on the back of good sites. I use spybot search and destroy on them. Make sure you update spybot if you run it.

I think this question may of been answered, but I am not sure. Can you use AOL IM for free if you don't have the service? I have comcast now, but would like to be included in some of the AOL chats with you all...

if i were you, i'd get aol 9.0, still has the same features as aim but you just cant get the same buddy icons. 9.0 is as fast as my quad, oh no wait, thats because my quad is slow lol. 9.0 is pretty fast and cool

Im not a big fan of AOL. Too much fluff. But I do run thier messenger which is AIM.

the point of this thread is not HOW to stop it once it starts...the point is how to stop it BEFORE it starts! I guess if you get bombarded with pop up windows when surfing, you just sit there all night and close them all... you have no need to prevent it?

Anyways, I see the only two options are to downgrade to the older version or buy some version of dead AIM.

i recently d/l'ed dead aim and wow, i'm glad i did. i figured since i'm on it everyday why not make it more enjoyable and a 1 time fee of 5 bux isn't crap. it gets rid of all those pop up vids, welcome screens, stock info, etc that annoy you, your able to log all your conversations with people, transparent im windows/buddy list, tabbed im's, and theres many more features. i highly suggest it to anyone that spends alot of time on aim, you will not regret it.

Just go into AIM edit options and turn all that crap off. Stockticker, welcome boxes, etc.

LOL, I know that. RiPPiNiTuP7 was talking about stock tickers and welcome screens.
I emailed MOFO a earlier version of AIM that should stop those videos. It will ask if you want to upgrade. You have to click no, and click never ask again.
He'll let us know how it works.
