You have to look at the absolute limits. Did you ever get the message "OH NOOOOOO, you pulled the lever too hard, stupid!"? So you let him fly just before you reach that limit.

Also, you can start the elves pushing before you actually pull back on the lever. There is one small one with three small peaks. Start pulling back on Santa just as the front of the cart passes the first of the three small peaks. After that, don't watch for the edge. Pay attention to how far you are pulling back on Santa, and let him fly just before you think you'll get the message that you pulled back too far.
