I am tearing down my 2001 400ex this winter and going with a 11:1 high comp 416 kit. Do I need to run race gas such as turbo blue? I used to burn aviation fuel that is 110 octane in my 250r. Would this hurt my 416?

no u dont need race gas...as long as the race gas you run is not oxygenated it will not hurt ur engine...a little oxygen may not hurt either...and what do u mean by avaition...do u mean aircraft?...if so that is not a good idea...that fuel is made especially for high altitudes...so it would not be good to run that in your bike

It all depends on if your engine is pinging when you run it. If it starts to ping, run 50/50 w/ race gas. If it is still pinging after this, run strait race gas. I run 50/50 in mine, and it hasnt pinged yet. And boy o boy does that stuff smell good too :D

i run about half and half in mine. $3.95 a gallon for the good smell is kinda steep.

I run 50/50... pump with VP C-12. I could probaby get away with a little lower ratio of race gas, but that way its easy to mix.

You really shouldn't run more octane than your engine requires. The higher octane (the ability of fuel to resist pre-detination) actually has a slower flame front. If you run a higher octane than you really need, than you are actually reducing your performance and paying more money at the same time. There are some advantages to running a leaded (tetra-ethel lead) however. It does provide a lubricant to your valve guides and cylinder. I run a 50/50 mix of avgas (100ll) to 92 octane unleaded. If you use the same testing method for avgas as you do pump fuel (r+m)/2, than 100ll is actually closer to 108 actane. Hope this helps!!!

50:50 mix of VP C12 and 91 pump is 99.5 octane. Like I said earlier, I could probably get away with a 1:4 ratio which would be 94.5 octane. I only run in the dunes and that sand really sucks the HP from the bike making it run hotter, so I'm OK with a little added octane. Every motor builder I've talked to says somewhere around 100 octane is real good for a 416/440 w/ high compression piston.

Now that I think about it, if I change my ratio of race gas and pump fuel from 50:50 to 1:4, would that affect my jetting?
