I have a 2001 400ex and was thinking about cutting the fenders but was wondering first, how much of a difference does it make? I ride in a descent amount of muddy areas and don't want to loose that much protection from the gooey stuff, but i love the race cut look. Also, is there alot of mud and whatnot flying up?? Do you notice any top speed gain? Also anyone with them cut that has pictures, please post the pics because i'm interesed in how different cuts look.

You will get some more mud flying up, but you gain more veiw of your front end which makes trail riding, and jumping a lil easier. I love my cut fenders, I don't mind mud on my clothes and stuff, but It's kinda anoyng (sp) when it covers your goggles. I need to try some tear offs! It's a hard choice to make if you do ride some mud!

If you ride in the mud alot I wouldn't do it! Yeah you can see your front end better, but not when your eyes or goggles get covered in mud! I have them and it gets annoying getting covered in mud. :macho

I seemed to get just as muddy with them as without. I hate riding a quad with fenders now.

I cut mine early this past summer. I debated on whether to do it or not also, but decided one day to take to it with the jig saw. After I got done, I went for a ride, and personally, didnt know why I didnt do it sooner. I love em and will probably do the same to any other quad I buy. Riding a quad with fenders now feels like Im sitting at a kitchen table.

Approximately how much have people cut off their fenders? I was thinking a mild trim might do the trick, like take off a good majority over the tire but leave about half beside the gas tank for just some a little mud protection. Any ideas??

Doesn't seem like you'll like it. Leave em' on if I go through the tiniest puddle mud ends up all over my quad and gear after being flung off the front tires. The only time I think you'd really ever put it to use is on big jumps, mx races and if your like me wheelies.

I installed race cut Maier fronts on my EX. It was horrible. It looks great, but not functional for wet/muddy trails. I had to stop every couple hundred yards, and wipe my goggles off. The minute I got home, I called Maier up and ordered the fender extensions.

I agree w/ Quadfather and Nausty, but if you can, I would go ahead and buy some race cut (ebay) to see if you like 'em. If not, you could always sell 'em. I wouldn't butcher my fenders w/ out knowing for sure tho! I have the add ons, just haven't put them on yet. I'm definately wanting to run 'em this winter and spring :D
