i have seen fog lights at wal mart, they are like 20$, and the yseem resistant to water and mud, what experiences do you guys had with any type of fog light on 300? do they break after you hit a bee or when you go over a rock?

and i would like to know: those lights are 20 watts, 12 volts and need 15 amps fuses, will my atv be able to make work those lights, or will they eat my battery in no time? cause i dont wanna get stock in 2 feet of snow with no battery...

thanks!

my friend runs them on his 300ex and has had no problems

I have some on mine and they work fine. Just stick with the lower wattages so you don't over work the stator. I used 35 watt fog lights.

i had 2 50watt lights on mine like those at walmart....they were really cool. it did kill my battery after about 30 hours of riding but all i had to do was charge it that night & it was fine.

ok thanks for the replies, and i was wondering do you see better than with the stock one? cause we ride mostly in the dark cause the sunrise is here at about 4h30 pm, so i need something that will let me see well.

thanks!

It depends on the lights you buy. Mine are just as bright without the cyclops look.

Boy I thought the days were short in ohio!

ok, thank you, so 20 watt lights wont eat my battery? and they wont get f'ed up at the first bump i hit? and do you have special things to say about how to wire them? do you took the original plug and plugged them on it? how have you done this?

thanks!

and your damn right about our days, frome 7h15 to 4h30 the sun is there, it makes long nights!:o

I have a 35 watt light and I've had no probs at all. I used a spade connector to plug it into the factory harness and used electrical tape to keep it there. I didn't want to cut into the harness. I did have to fabricate my own bracket though.

Don't feel bad eh. We have long nights and short days too! LOL:D

do you have pics of anything, the whole finish, the bracket, but i would really like to see how you made your wires

i was kinda think to plug one fog on the actual wire, and take another one and plug it on, and then go to the fog, but i think there is wires in the box with the fogs.

n e way i'll keep you updated, i go to buy them tomorow morning.

thank you for your replies! and if you haev some pics please post 300exOH

i drilled two holes in my front fenders & mounted them there next to the gas tank kind of....i didnt ever hook them up to my actual switch but had another one that came with it to turn those on...they were super bright & I may put them back on pretty soon if I ride at night more often. :D

Here's some pics. You can't really see the wiring though. I just used a flat connector that would push directly into the plug that went to the stock light. I only have low beams this way but they're bright enough. I think you could run two low wattage(no higher than 35 watt) one on the low beam side and one for high beams.

one more from the front

I used the bracket that came with the lights to attach it.
I also had to put a small piece of rubber behind the bracket to protect the wiring from rubbing. You can see it in the second pic.

ok i got 2 x 20watts lights, so will it make 40 watt?

and for the neutral and reverse light, were did you put them? i already go my key on the left side in the plastics, n e way that's not important for now.

that's what i will be doing:

i got 2 fog lights, 2 wires per light, so i need to put the 2 wires together, and then plug them to the original wire, and same for the 2 others.

as for installing them when you remove the stock headlight there is 2 holes, with the welded boats to hold the original light, i tried to put back the original boat with the fog light instead. it works weel, and i think i will leave them this way.

and damn they are lighting so bright i watch them in front and i got spot in my eyes for 5 minutes!

my fog are looking like that:

I don't have any pics w/ the fog lights on it. They're smaller ones, they kinda shine like a flood pattern instead of a spot (like I wanted) :grr: :D

The 300EX has a 100 watt stator, but that doesn't mean you can use ALL 100 watts for lighting. You still need some to run your taillight, charge your battery, and other electricals. A simple rule of thumb is 80% of your stator output can be used for lighting.

So, your stator can easily handle two 20watt lights. In fact, your stator could handle FOUR 20W lights. I think two 35W lights is the best combo. I don't really recommend two 55w lights on the stock stator, because the stator was only designed to output 100 watts, and obviously two 55w lights comes to 110w. You MAY be able to get away with one 55w light and one 35w light.

The only thing you need to worry about is making sure you connect correctly. Your stock wiring harness should have three connections, a low beam, a high beam, and ground, and you need to determine which one is which. It doesn't matter which one you hook up, low beam or high beam, they are both the same. The high beam isn't "more power" than the low beam, it's just a different filament in your stock light that makes the light point upwards instead of down at the ground.

How much can the 400 stator handle?

ok thanks, i started to install them last night, and i just put the wires together, and it seems that there is only one that works, is this why my stock headlight wasn't working on high beam? cause i tried many things, and it never worked.

ok so thank you for your replies, and i'll keep you updated, with pics, hopefully (if i can post them)

I'm pretty sure the 400 is also a 100W stator.

In fact, I think just about every new quad has 100W stator, with the exception of the minis. I beleive the banshee has only like an 75W stator.

There ARE some differences. The 250r and 250x are both single-phase AC systems, where as the 300EX (and I believe also the 400EX) is a 3-phase generation rectified to DC. I believe the stock 400EX lights are both 35W lights, where as the 300EX, 250X, and 250r each have a single 55W light.

It sounds like your wiring to your high beam may not be working. You can wire both lights to your low beam. Like I said, the high beam isn't more power, it's just a different wire that goes to a different filament in your stock light. Whether you wire them both to low beam, or both to high beam, you would get the same result.

and i plugged them on low, no problem so far.

thanks!
