I am rebuilding my 88 250r which i will be racing this year in motocross. I was going to send my motor off to MP in oregon but i can afford to, there not expensive i just dont have the extra cash. So i am thinking about having one of the local shops rebuild my bottom end, bore the cylinder, new piston, and put a new clutch in. I proably could do the rebuild myself but i dont want to take a chance on screwing it up. Should i spend the money on having the bottom end rebuilt or should i just do the piston and clutch. My motor was rebuilt once and has 155lbs compression.

And if you had your R bottom end rebuilt what did you pay?

155 psi seems kind of low.

you should check the play of the main bearings if they wiggle at all, its time for a rebuild.

you can check the play of the crank by taking the top end off.

Check, the crank bearing play and the connecting rod play.

Replacing old bearings is key to the life of a 250r.

A true and weld wouldnt hurt either.....

My Brother had his Motor all the way Rebuilt. I`m not sure what just the Bottom End costs, but the Total Price of everything was around $2,500.
