What is the best type of air filter for my 400ex. I ride sometimes in the sand as well as the woods. I am looking at the K@N as well as the Uni. Is there better ones. Also, does the Uni give any horsepower gains.

Man call up KaleCo and get a airfilter By Pass kit. It adds 25hp.
You just take your filter off and put the KaleCo tube over it.

OK this kit is sweet. To get the full 25hp you need to take your silencer off, then take your airfilter off, and they send a 3inch PVC tube with 2 open ends, stick one in the airboot and the other end lets that cool air in, it sounds awsome also!
Try to get a set of Forged Khuneston Valves also, they add lots of HP!

Go with the K&N. As long as you keep the filter well oiled, clean, and run it with an outerwear, you won't have any problems with dirt entering your intake.
I've run mine for almost a year in some harsh conditions and have yet to find the smallest trace of dirt in the intake.:D
BTW--I've noticed that K&N now makes an oil filter for the 400ex, has anyone tried it yet?

A lot of people say that you should use a foam filter for dusty riding conditions. but average riding, a k&n will work great.

How many horses does a k&n air filter add. Someone told me about 10, i was thinking that was a bit much.

You deffinitly won't gain 10hp on a four wheeler. maybe a car or truck, but not a four wheeler. it does help though.
What kind of foam filters do you guys use. i was thinking about getting one. i have a k&n, but i want a foam filter for dusty conditions.

I remember reading in an article that a K&N gives its best performance when it is 30% dirty.
I beleive I read that in the March (last years) issue of Diertwheels. The same issue that had the 400EX pipe shootout.
