400ex idle problem

my 400ex will not idle, you always have to rev the engine
to keep it running or it will die. Have new spark plug and throttle
cable. What could the problem be.

How low is your idle set. You may try setting the idle higher this may fix the problem. It is a big set screw by the choke. Try turning the idle and see if that helps.

Is the choke on?

It could also be crappy gas.

Choke is off and the idle screw is set about at factory or a little higher.The gas is 94 oct.

I've got a problem with my 01 416, it will hardly idle til it gets warm, then once its warm it idles fast...

you might have an air leak. i noticed that on my bike after i put in a cam and piston that the bike doesn't want to idle when it is warm. when it is cold, it idles fine. i had to turn in my fuel skrew. i am using a 42 pilot jet at 1.75 turns out on the fuel skrew.

Dirty carb and possibly and broken idle screw..Thats what I had to do to mine to fix it....
