will 88-89 swingarms fit on an 87 R?

You need to get a bracket to weld to the frame. On the 86-87 there is a gap in the middle of the swingarm where a motor mount goes. On the 88-89 it is solid and that mount is part of the frame.

Sorry Guys. The 86/87 swingarms and the 88/89 are very different. You can take the 86/87 and install on the 88/89 frames, but you can't take the later swingarms and mount them on an earlier frame. Not without welding another set of motor mounts on the frame anyway. Also, the dogbone part of the linkage is a different length, so you will need a new linkage as well.
