Hey Mickey,
How life been treatin' ya? I bought your 11:1 440 kit back in Feb. and I have to tell you it's very impressive. Of course I've got head work, carb, pipe, etc, etc. I was wondering, do you sell stroker true and welded cranks w/ HD rod for the 400ex that would go with my kit? I would like to go with a 13:1 piston and stroke it to maybe a 460 or 470. What's your opinion?

Dunlap
12-04-2003, 12:13 AM
I dont sell one like that but if you look in the Jan. Dirt Wheels Powroll has a new stroker with a nice looking rod that would work.

Would one of your stroker cranks work with a white brothers cam and other head work I already have done to my warrior? How much hp difference would there be?

When the lower end gets tired, I'd like to go to that setup. Are they fairly reliable in stroked form (simalar to stock).

I was gonna ask you this on a different forum, but the threads always end up getting locked. Didn't get to see the price for the crank and labor either.

Are 250 riders (Marty Hart,Mike Coe,Dean Sundal) said they couldn't hole shot Jimmy White's Kawi with the gear box they had in the R's at that time so the Team manager ask me to ride Sundal's 250r to see if I could do it. I put some smaller 16 inch tires on and went out and put it to Jimmy for one race and then they put me back in the 200 class.

This is about as old as they get. This is my next restoration project. It was owned by Todd Knippenberg. I was going to restore it when he was riding for Team Green and make him train on this for the off-cambers in the GNCC races! Nothing like riding a 3-wheeler through the trees, down hills and off-cambers

Yes, Chad Wallace will be riding it in the Junior Class next year if he wants. We had Bryan Cook come up and ride it but the district rep for Gas Gas had changed the rear linkage on the machine back when Chad D. was riding it to lower it and it messed the suspension up and didn't handle good for Bryan so he bought a YFZ the other day from a local shop up here and we are building it for him now.

The motor was a sand casted proto-type with a cr125 6 speed gear box, that why it cost so much.

Best race was my first big win in the King dome in Washington state against Team Honda, and doing it again two weeks later in O.K. city O.K. But I like it almost as good when I was riding for Honda and they told me that I was not going to a race in Iowa because it was not a big race. I didn't like being told that so I showed up on my own and borrowed one of my old 200x's that I sold to a guy that happen to be there. I won against my own team mates that were riding the new 200 two strokes. Honda did pay me my win money but they didn't like what I did.

This is the last one for the night - it's been a long day.

"Worst Race" - One of my last rides for Honda at the San Jose National I jumped the line and got sent to the 3rd row all by my lonesome. It was a 20 lap race and on the 18th lap I had moved from 20th to 1st finally passing Curtis only to make one mistake on the second to last lap and Curtis got by me again and hogged the track for the last lap and I had to take 2nd to him. What made it one of the worst races was first of all losing to Curtis and the second was being told I had to run the Honda tires because the Japanese were there instead of running my Carlisle RA's. The Honda tires were fried and nothing left of them on the last lap. If I would have had my Carlisle's on I would have hooked up a lot better and things may have been different. As you can tell, I didn't like Honda telling me what to do.

looks like '72 model. steel front fender, fiberglass rear, and those chrome "quick release" handlebars. We had the same bike when I was a kid. When I was about 6 dad dug it out of the barn and turned down some hubs on the lathe and we mounted some of those 16" lawnmower tires on it. Big step up from my b&s mini bikes! Late "85" moved back to Powroll, made a video on riding tips for 3 wheelers. Too little too late,3 wheelers were dying out and Gary Denton came out with his video on 4 wheel racing,it was a big flop(so much for Hoolywood).

Why use such small rear tires?

On a 21hp 200x wheel speed was important, meaning you needed small, light wheels for quick acceleration. The Carlisal R/A 16inch tires worked the best.

By "87" both Sparks and me made the switch to 4 wheelers. I road a Mojave in the TTs and built a Tecate-4 with a Mojave motor in it for MX.

Mickey, why did Honda never mass produce the 200 2-stroke? Was it a ATC only motor? I'm sure they would of sold a ton of them if they put the motor in a bike frame like a KDX.

Thanks to all that enjoyed them,it makes me miss racing.

The 200cc motorcycle market is not that big and they already had a good selling xr200 and the same goes for the 200x. At the time Jimmy White started running a 200 two stroke and they didnt want Kawasaki to get a head of them so they started moving that way. Jimmy had a hard time keeping his air cooled 200 running and it wasnt that fast anyway.
