Well my cousin bought a rancher about the same time i got my 400ex in 2000.
Anyways he went off to college and his brother has been riding it since he went. And proceeds to trash it. Couple weeks ago i pick it up to fix it since he says the starter is bad. I try to push start it and the tires just locked up. So i took the top cover off the engine and i smelled some really burnt up oil and knew it was locked up for sure then.

Heres whats left of the piston.

The bad part is it was laying on the crank when my motor guy took it apart.

I wonder what the hell he did to cause that. Probably never cleaned the filter or oil. :o Idiot!

I think he just ran it out of oil.

that would do it. I ran my truck out of oil on accident, I never admitted it, but I sure did want the 383 anyway and that requires a new crank :p

He was like i swear i always changed the oil, but he is only 15 and i know he never had the ride or the money to go get oil and a filter. It was overfilled with oil when i took it aprat i think he just filled it up with some to get some heat off him. It had a few spots were it was leaking too.

I think he also tried to start it by dragging it with a truck. No way he did that by just running it out of oil. But, YES, you do have a good idea about what to do!

Actually i think he said something about doing that. The pull starter was also broke too, he yanked the handle clean off.

That is almost exactly what my piston looked like when it came out of my 400, yea it was locked up no doubt about that.

I'm wondering how much this is gonna cost him. The wrist pin is stuck in the rod, the crank still wont move and there in metal dust like you won't belive in the bottom end. I haven't seen the topend yet so i cant say much about that.

i would just buy a whole new motor & not have to worry about anything anymore & also not let that idiot 15 year old drive it...when i was 14 & got my first 1998 Honda 300 4x4 I even knew how to follow the instruction guide on how to change the oil & whatnot..this kid must be retarded

Being 15 is no excuse. I'm 15 and things are no problem for me.

I was changing the oil on my gf's rancher....stupid ***** me was tighting the plug instead of loosening it.....Lucky I stoped in time before it was completely striped. Thread tape save my *****..and saved her motor. It was leaking oil and I didn't know it(that was before I put the thread tape on the plug bolt)once I found out though...I fixed it, and it hasn't dripped a drop of oil sense.

That was the only time I have ever made a mistake changing oil...I felt especialy stupid cause it was for my gf...and I was kinda trying to impress her by doing it....didn't go to well. But being 15 is no excuse, and neither is being lazy. I think kicking him in the nuts sounds like a good idea, or make his lazy butt get up, and get a job, and make SURE you get everyone of his paychecks untill you have enough money for a new motor:devil:

Its not mine its his older brother's, I just pulled the motor out and took it to my motor guy.
I know better then to let him ride mine for an extended period of time (more then 5 minutes). I'm gonna kick him in the nuts just for abusing equipment.
