Valve adj question

I just adjusted me valves on my 03 400ex that has 20 hours on it. I felt that the intake valves were great just a little little rub on the feller.

Both of the exhaust's were tight. I loosened them up a tad tell they too had a little rub.

Before I had a valve tap cause it was a new motor now they tap it less but if you get close to the engine you hear a little tap did I make them too loose??????

use a feeler gauge and tighten them down till there is a slight drag on the gauge as you pull it out.

I have done that there is still a little tap if you get real close to the engine.

I think a little ticking is normal but i wanted to make sure.

intake .004 exhaust .005 use a feeler guage to set like the other guy suggested. some ticking is normal. better loose than tight in this situation.be sure you are on the compression stroke tdc when you make your adj.not sure i know what a little rub is.please explain :o

Alright.....I have adjusted my valves on my 03 400ex with 20 hours on it. The book said 20 hours adjust vlaves.

I did it how it is supposed to be done I used me honda service manual.

I KNOW HOW TO ADJUST VALVES!!!!!!!!!!

My only question was after I adjusted them If you get very close to the engine there is still a slight tick. I was wanting to know if this was normal or are my valves sightly loose?

yes the tick is perfectly normal your alwasy goin to have a mechanical noise coming from the head

my valves seem to be quieter if they are a little tight vs a little loose. i know many say not to run the valves too tight. i talked to two local honda dealerships and they say too many people adjust them too loose. i make sure there is a little more than "slight" drag on the feeler guage. this works better for me. a little tick is going to be normal.

Thanks alot guys. Bike seems to have a bit more power after the adjustment as well.
