I had stock clutch in a stock 400ex. With the 416, I have the Sparks 8 plate with stock basket. Definately worth it, gets the power to the ground.

The clutch plates in the sparks kit are probly some kind of stock Honda plates may not be for a 400ex but there probly stock honda plates.
I have Gt Thunders 8 plate setup with the stock basket. And he uses Honda plates too. Probly the exact same kit.

From everyone i have talked to Honda plates are usually better quality then aftermarket.

The aftermarket baskets are heavier duty but arent necessary unless the stock one has a bunch of grooves in the fingers.

so the hinson 8 plate setup isnt worth it!!!just get a new basket if you need one...now what about the presure plate stock or after?

With my Gt Thunder set up lazarus just machined my pressure plate a little bit, he does this with all of them.

Hinson stuff is expensive. It should last longer then stock but i don't think it justifies the price. I've had my quad 3 1/2 years 2 1/2 with major motor mods and the stock clutvh is still in decnt shape. The full hinson setup is around $800 (i think correct me if i'm wrong) My Gt Thunder setup was around 200. And it included the plates, disks, machining the pressure plate, clutch springs, and a gasket.

Just getting the heavier springs helps the clutch performance but getting that extra disk in there helps even more.

I'm another advocate for running Honda plates. They hold up and perform the best from what I have found. Others may be cheaper, but that doesn't make them better. I have an 8 plate setup in mine with HD springs and it puts the power to the ground just fine.

I'm pretty sure the 8 plate setups most engine builders use are 300ex steal plates and CR or trx250R fiber plates. But yes they are stock honda parts.

I also have the 8 plate setup and it is much MUCH better than stock. As K-fulk mentioned, power to the ground baby..:macho

It depends on how much work is done to the quad or bike.If your engine is highly moded go with aftermarket, what good is motor work if your stock clutch slip. If you engine is mostly stock there is no reason to change the clutch.
