Probably a turbo 400 but its only a 3 speed. 700s can be beefed up pretty good too.

Yep, I'd take the 700 and have it rebuilt and tell the tranny shop what kind of use/power it needs to handle.

I'm assuming you've got a small block in your truck. I'd recommend a Turbo 350 tranny. It's more than enough transmission for a small block, is a little cheaper than a TH-400 and it's a tad bit lighter. As was mentioned, you'll lose overdrive by going with one of these.

Why don't you look into rebuilding your 700R-4?

i just (past summer) put a brand new transmittion in my truck its a stock 5 speed. IM a dumbass for doing it the way i did. Locked in 2nd gear tranny was screwed totaly he goes you need a new one i said get one. Should shut my mouth gone with a trailer picked it up and brought it home. I wish i had waited and bought one that had been built up to haldle the engine i want to put in it. I want it to haldel 400hp now im stuck with a stock one that cost me 1000. Ohh well so now im going to just build this one up when i get my engine finished
Good luck finding what you want take your time and figure out what you want

If its a 4WD, I recommend a TH350 lockup. Be aware though, that not ANY TH350 will bolt right in. You will need a Trans-dapt kit which includes a new spacer/mount for the transfer case and the proper output shaft. It also includes the flexplate cover and decal for the shift indicator, etc.

A well built TH350 will handle 400-450hp no problem and will be a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to rebuild than any other transmission. TH400's are nice, but they take more hp to turn (about 30hp more than a TH350) They're also a bit more expensive to build/rebuild. If you want to run upwards of 500hp, though, you should go with a TH400.
