I know that the 300 has a clutch and chain drive, but is there a big difference in performance between the two? I am looking at a starter bike for my wife and was thinking the 250 because there is no clutch, but was wondering the advantages and disadvantages of both. It is only 50cc right? Is it worth the extra 1000 dollars?

IMO yes, the 300 is much better. The ONLY reason I would get her the 250EX is if she DID NOT want a clutch... if she can learn, get the 300. It has much more potential... she might out grow the 250EX pretty quick (speaking about performance..not physical size)

maintence should be easier. i would rather work on a chain drive than a shaft drive.

GET HER THE 300!!!!!:D Thats what I ride & I've ridden my nephews 250ex & could tell I would get bored REAL quick w/ that. But like MOFO said if she DOES NOT want to shift then go w/ the 250ex Good Luck :)

my sister has a 250ex and i have a 300ex. there is a big noticeable power difference. It also feels like u sit on top of the 250ex. the 300 handles better too.

Yeah like MOFO said, if she is not into the clutch thing then the 250 is for her, BUT, I would highly recommend the 300. There is much more potential. The 250 is limited in many areas. Either way I am sure that your wife will have a blast, lol!:)

a 250EX is actually a 229cc. and a 300ex is actually a 282cc. so it would be a 53cc difference:blah:

haha...i actually made this post to tell you that a 250 is a 229, and i thought the 300ex was actually a lot closer to 300...but i guess i was wrong, so just to let you know the facts there;)

and yes a 229 would probably grow old with your wife, so i'd go right ahead and get her a 300ex or a 400ex (and don't worry about shifting, just show it to her and she will learn. i showed my GF how to do it and she learned within a few minutes and now she's got it down;) )

I would get her the 300ex....Its a lot more of a sport quad than a 250ex in my opinion. The 250 is pretty much a recon, just differnt plastics, and a few other things. I think she would enjoy the 300 more, and it would be easier to move on to a 400 when she is ready, seeing as how she is used to the clutching and braking and what not. just my $.02 -Nick-
