View Full Version : 400ex?? what to look for when buying?

is there anything i should look for when buying a 400ex? its got a pipe high comp. piston stage 2 hotcam and ported polished. i know they are reliable machines and all but is there anything i should look for when buying it too make sure the engine is good and nothing is wrong with it? thanks

any loud ticking..any wobbling in the axle or wheels..check the fram for any cracks or bends...check to see how clean the airbox & oil is ;)

The best thing to do is do a compression check. start it up and listen for anything strange. see if it is smoking any. Check the frame over real good for cracks especially around the front shock mounts and around the foot peg area.

stand it up on its end and look carfully at the bottom of the quad see if it leaks oil around the drain. Look at how clean the engine is. Mostly cracks in the frame and get someone to hold the back end up and see if u can wiggle the wheels and axle from side to side.

you said it had a high compression piston.....whats the compression on that?
