For you few people that helped when I asked what i should get b/t the 250r or 400ex, I have chose. Its a 400EX.
I went out and rode today with my friend whos got a 400ex(03). And i was on my blaster. well we have like 1/2 a track build up at his house and with all the rain we have comming down its such a mess. you do a holeshot thru his whole yard. Its just constant wide open. Then we went to our friends house and it was literatly a 2ft deep pond we had to cross then go into the trail which was the same. Mud isnt what a 2-stroke is bound for but the 400 didnt really have a problem. 2-Strokes gotta keep the R's up and yea. Plus in the winter if im not riding my sled(too little snow) im on the quad, and again wide open a lot. Kinda pointless cuz your wide open and doing about 20mph, so im gunna go to the thumper 400ex. I love my friends. Its handling is great and wheelies like nothing. I can carry one a long ways. Just topping out at 65mph isnt for me but all else rules out. So I was wondering how you guys like your 400EX's and what you like/dislike about them? I will have like $2500 so spend so i think if i look hard enough i can pull 1 out some where.

i like my 400. not a bad quad at all. And w/ a few mods, it becomes very competitive.

its also a trail quad quoted ATV Sport MAgazine. Thats the EX in it. Its from the XR 400. Just cam and what not was changed to ATV abuse. Yet can easily become a sick MXer. But thats what i need really. Keep the replys comming. Thanks guys/Gals

welll...handling wise yes, it doesnt have too much to offer power wise once youve mastered the might 35 hp modded engine

uh...:huh you guys have some MAJOR issues...

i like my 400ex a lot, and yes they aren't very good power-wise unless you put a big bore in them like a 440, i've ridden a 416 and it still wasn't enough for me.

if you ride trails a lot and have some money to spend in putting some extras on it for more power, then i'd go ahead and get a 400ex if it's cheap. mine is very excellent for riding sweet wheelies and it's awesome on the trails because of my 14t sprocket. now i wish i had a 426 or 440...:(

you just cant beat the ole honda's reliability either. And, if ya want proof that it is capible of racing, just look at this years baja 1000 results. the 400 is still in the top 5

if ur coming off of a blaster, the stock 400ex is going to feel pretty powerful for a while, thats how it was for me, then i got bored with it and picked up a slip on. And again i eventually got bored with that, now im on a cam. Going from 17hp ( i think thats the stock power of a blaster ) to 28hp is a big leap. So ull love it for a while. Slowly mod it up.

Hey man thats good to hear i liked my friends old 01 400ex i tryed to buy it from for $2500 but he wouldn't sell it for taht he wanted $3000. But you will find lots for $3000-$3500 with mods well theres alot like that around here.

400's are great, specially when you come off of a 13hp 600 lb. machine like i did... BUT if you get bored with the power stroke it.. :p but just be happy and mod it if you get tired of the power.. and if you dont want to race in any big mx races you can slap on a 502 and wa laa instant power.., well its a little different then that... but overall you will love the 400ex, now when it has sat there over night it is a tiny bit hard to start, still though nothing to worrie about it only takes a couple minutes... adn if you only have 2500 to spend ask for some money for christmas...:macho good luck and i hop you get a 400
