Im al looking at purchasing a new one. My choice is between a z or one of the new 450s. I mainly plan on doing trail riding and hill climbing. Do you think i should just save the exrta 1000 and get the z?

if your thinkin with the extra grand youll have if you buy the Z and buy parts for it to make it better than the new 450's well it would take nearly two for the Z to handle and be almost as fast. spend the extra 1000 bucks and get a new 450. a grand into a Z wont make it better than a stock 450

hehe, it'll take at least $2K just for the motor work :D haven't even started on the $$$ for suspension and stuff...

you'll need a lot of power for hillclimbing and handling for the trails but no reverse...when i trailride i never use reverse anyway...worse that happens is i get off my fat lazy *** and push...so get the TRX450R, lol...no, i'd go with the YFZ

450

My reason= I don't trust the Z's frame or shock mounts.

My z has been been great for me alot of people say they will stick to there z's for trail riding. For the stuff your going to do it is mainly rider skill. Plus 450's are alittle over a $1000 more than a z. If you can find a used z for $3800-4500 like they are around here. Just think with that $2000 that you spent to buy a 450 you could make the z way bette rthan a stock 450. Think about it~!~ ;)

Also all the axle, frame, and shock mounts problems have been fixed! That was only on the first few z's. MIne was wercked pretty hard and it held up great.:p :) :p

I don't think so. My friend's Z is a 04 and we road his quad for about 10 minutes, and we bent the axle, already!

i dont think so.

the YFZ has better stock suspension and a 450 engine that makes more hp.

lets see:

new a-arms and front shocks - $1200-2200

new rear shock and swingarm(stock Z swinger SUCKS) - $1500-2200

450 kit(done correctly) - $1000-3000

now depending if you increase the front width, you would want to increase the rear width:

new rear axle - $200-350

this is just getting it on par with the YFZ.

The Z's chasis is junk!!

Go with the 450.

You need to decide what you want or whats most important. Do you need or want electric start or reverse? Do you have to have the newest or the fastest thing out there? How fast is fast enough for you? Which machine fits you best? Do you have the extra grand or more to spend? Do you have a couple grand more to trade up to one of the 450's if you don't like the z? You say you ride trails at what speeds do you travel most of the time? I have heard the yfz is alittle harsh at slow speeds. My z has held up well and NEVER had any problems and it was one of the first ones. If I was to buy a new quad today it would be one of the 450's although not sure which one. I like having the newest and greatest and I am not brand loyal. Answer the above questions honestly with yourself and you should find your quad. I did. Now I'll wait til march then go get myself a new machine. Good luck
