It's 4" over stock. It handles great; slight shake at about 80 mph though more prominent on rougher tracks. You wont find any fancy a-arms or nerfs, etc on here; it's all about light weight and power. 60ft in 1.70 secs and 330ft in 5.12 secs. High 13's in 1/4 mile now at 84.13 mph No wheel stands:cool:

Thanks guys! yes, it's transluscent red with chrome basecoat. Looks even better in person in the sun. I only had a Yoshimura slip on pipe with all 03 runs; Sparks X6 complete on the way so high 7's are coming soon. For reference a stock Z28 runs mid to high 8's stock in 1/8 mile.

Chef, the shake doesnt go away.....

No doubt; a 400ex cannot be modded to make anywhere near the hp of a max built shee. Friend with a 410 banshee runs high 6's in 1/8 mile at near 100mph with 220 lb rider!:eek2:

I do however have a pretty fast 4 stroker; I will let the banshees rest:D

yeah, but thats the only thing a shee is good for, goin in a straight line!:p

you have a nice ex....the guy that built my cousins motor had a 580, it was unstoppable, nothing in indiana could beat it, except for a guy with a crotch rocket motor in a lightened polaris frame...that thing was unbelievable, he tried to run pro weges on it and it ripped the tires to shreds straight off the bead

so he has to run 6 ply spider tracks! :huh

that thing is scary!

Yes front brakes only. I cant go anywhere else to ride with this setup and theres plenty of shutdown room after the speed traps so I removed the rear. When quad was rollin Xc tires setup; the rear rotor/caliper mount did have help; the Uwharrie Mnts nearyby tore the rotor hub off and bent the rotor on the rocks:rolleyes:

another thing, the guy with the 580 was clocked up at muncie speedway goin 147 mph....he said it had more but he was afraid to go any faster:eek2:

84.67 or so mph top speed with 18" American racers and 16/36 gearing (high rev box also added 6 mph) It pulls hard up to about 75 mph or so; slow travel to 84 from there. If you run that setup you wont go any faster than me; you will be banging the rev limiter also. Who's doing the stroker?

Smokin 440
11-27-2003, 08:39 PM
The motor currently is A JE 12.5:1 nikasil piston, a hot rod, 2mm bigger black diamond valves, heavy duty valve spring, hardened rockers, a custom ground webcam, I think he said a 5 angle valve job, a port and polish, a 42mm fcr carb, K&N filter(no airbox lid), a Sparks X-6 ceramic coated system, beefed up tranny, full hinson clutch setup, and a sparks rev box. For the stroke im goin with Powroll, the cam i have is really "hot" because the motor was built for flat track racing, so i wanted more torque for xc but i am goin to race flattrack and ice. I was just curious to see what a drag bike did...

Sounds like you gonna have some major power:D When you do the stroker you have to either: run a shorter conn rod OR get a custom piston with revised wrist pin location. With the powroll rod I beleive you can run your choice of piston. Good luck with 04 Race season--maybe get the head o-ringed also when tore apart. I have been contemplating a 4mm stroke on mine as well; def going with methanol (alcohol) this next season though. ;)

i was told, switching to alcohol was like switching from a stock blaster to a stock banshee! Ive also heard its not real hard on the 4 strokers!

good luck!

Yea, I cant wait to get on it! I will post results good or bad; I expect 3-4 tenths in 1/8 mile or it's getting a 15 shot of NX too.

I dunno 'bout the NX... have u seen the boondocker system i would tust it more, about a 30% gain in horsepower... good luck though

I have looked into all avail systems. The boondockers has some good points but: I cannot use it. First, the nitrous is injected into the airbox which I dont have. The other thing that concerned me with this setup: nitrous is very cold. It looks to me the throttle slide can actually freeze up from this? Maybe not..dunno

I dont have an airbox because the rear drag shocks have a rolled open end as the fronts; with no clevis. Thus, I cannot run the stock linkage and the very dramatic rear shock angle prevents the airbox from sitting in the 'hole' All nitrous systems are adjustable with provided jets; you can have 5hp or 30 with simple adjustments. Thanks for bringing this up; your 440 ever run the strip?

Smokin 440
11-29-2003, 08:07 PM
Nope never ran a strip... I don't think the carb would ice up with the boondocker because its designed for snowmobiles, and its much colder out when their running. Does it inject in the airbox, or the airboot? b/c u wouldn't want to inject through your filter...

mikeboone
11-29-2003, 08:13 PM
The retail site I was looking at said it was injected into the airbox itself.

Awesome ride 465! When you did the stroker; did you have them use a stock length Carrillo rod with custom stroker piston or shorter Carrillo and stock piston? I have a stock length Carrillo and want to keep if possible? Thanks--Mike

Well, if you send $5K my way I will be glad too.:D Seriuosly, they are very expensive when you buy all required parts and have them installed. The 400ex kits I have seen were converted from a carb to fuel injected setup--def. not something you can do over the w/e. A strong built 440ex wont hold with major mods AND a turbo; it's an either or deal. \

Chef, I am not aware of any site with FSW 3 posts about location,. etc. Is this usually held during MLK w/e? I bet 465 knows the url; he MAY manage the site? I am gonna have FTZ do the carb conversion. You run the FCR also?

The site is in his sig..:o

I am running the FCR41 with a power now intake bell right now, but I am going to have my 39 polished and bored and use it. The 41 will be going on my bike for next year. No sense in using a $650 carb for the dunes.

HoNdAdude48
11-30-2003, 01:32 PM
i understand about all the expense stuff, but keep this in mind, if your gonna run a 15 shot of nitrous, then your gonna have to rebuild that strong 440 several times. when if you go turbo you dont have to deal with it. i mean, i kno its not the same but, my dad has a 65 vette outlaw 10.5 car (drag racing) up until 2 yrs ago we ran nitrous, but got tired of constantly tearing the motor down trying to get in the 7's, well now the car is a turbocar, EASILY in the 7's (1/4 mile) 7.40's @ about 200mph. so if you wanna spend the money now, cuz eventually you will, you could have that thing flyin! i mean we have had no problem out of the turbo other than valvetrain problems, but that is figured out now, so, i shiite you not, it does eventually pay-off!

Any FSW info is on atvfanatics.com. If you were asking me about meth Ive been there done that! Wont go back... A bike the size of mine on meth gets from camp to the hill about 10 runs up it and half way back to camp. On gas which is only about 2 or 3hp less than good gas the thing will go the same trip with 30 runs on 1/2 gallon of fuel. My bike is designed for 80% duning and %20 hill shooting so there is no room for milage like that in its life! There are many fuel adders out there to make gas as powerful as meth but they are pretty costly. email me at sales@billetbikeworks.com I can send you some info on the adders. BTY it is a stock length rod with a higher wristpin location.
