My friend and i have the same headders and his melt too. The best think to do is get pants that have leather and the sides of your knees or have someone make you a custom heat shield.

I have a hole in the side of my freeride pants from a 300ex with a full WB exhaust. Those damn 4 stroke pipes get hot. With my 2 strokes they haven't burned the pants yet but have left a bit of a black waffle pattern from the nylon on the pipe. I imagine if you ceramic coated your pipe it would be a couple hundred degrees cooler. The ceramic coated exhaust on my 600 ninja bike doesn't seem to get that hot (they coat them inside and out).

Ya I had the same problem with my free ride pants so I went to my local leather shop and bought a patch of black leather to match my pants and then had it nicley sewn on by an apholstry shop. works great!:)

You guys might be able to wrap header tape around your exhaust to keep from getting burned. I used it on my 300ex near the muffler to keep it from burning through the fender.

I wouldn't use the header tape. Yes it does work well to keep the heat off but dirt and water get trapped under the tape and rust the pipe out bad. I found out the hard way. I recommend either a heat shield or a leather patch on your pants.

How do you not melt your pants on the sparks pipe, that is the pipe that has melted both pair of my lbz pants, my is the ceramic coated one.
I guess that is one advantage of the Cannondale you don't have to worry about melting your pants

i imagine the ceramic coating keeps the heat in a lot better, but my stainless steel sparks pipe will melt right through. it gets as hot as a mo-fo, but then again i guess i don't have anything to compare it too.

I still have a nice scar on the back of my right hand from my cpi pipe this summer on the R. We were riding pretty hard for a while then stopped. Like an idiot i moved my kickstarter down by hand to see if it was in neurtal. Had a blister the size of a slug on my hand for about a week before it peeled.
A better one was one of my riding buddies had T5's on his banshee and relocated the key for it under the front plastic. He reached down to turn it off and had a perfect "T5" emblem burned into the inside of his forearm! That's brand loyalty baby (he has CPI's now, lol).

The dmc stuck out a lot more then my sparks pipe. I think i just got used to riding with my foot away from it.

you can buy some really cool looking aluminum polished heat shields, that would completely fix your problem!
