For all you guys with alot in your motors. What made the biggest difference?
I am going to have around 400 to spend.Maybe 500.Right now I am thinking a cam.But when I get a cam I think I should get a higher compression piston.
All's I know is this bike needs more power.Low end is pretty good. But up top she has nothing.I want the front end to come up when I shift into 5th.Right now it does it in 3rd.
I don't want to cheap out.I am thinking a sparks x-6.But I don't want to spend all the money and not be happy.
Thanks for any advice.

Your gonna spend a pretty penny on motor mods to make it wheely in 5th gear...:eek2:
I spent $300 on minor motor mods and it really woke up the quad. I don't think i've ever wheelied in 5th gear...:huh SSD rear shock won't let me I don't think.. Heck i can barely get the front wheels off the ground in 2nd or 3rd..:huh

I would agree with doing the high compression piston and cam at the same time which will run you around $286 including gaskets. and getting a full exhaust system and a high flow air filter. You will notice a big difference in power

i don't think you shock has got anything to do with it, it's probably your beer gut if anything :huh
 :blah:
I've wheelied in 5th before...but not from shifting into 5th
I think for you to shift into 5th and have the front wheels come up you'd need a -2 swingarm on a 500cc banshee...lol
no really tho, if you are looking for some power gains get a high compression piston and a cam, and then a carb, they will all work awesome together
a stock bore piston (11:1 comp.) w/ a fcr carb actually works pretty good
you're looking at
-$120-150 for a piston, 11:1 compression works good
-$120 for a hot cam
-$450 for the 39mm fcr carb
and that'd give you a pretty good setup for around $700, which would show noticable power, but do the piston and cam first, then get the carb once you have some more bucks

I was riding today.Sometimes when I shift into 4th it would come up.Never 5th though.I think I am going with an HMF slip-on first.See how that works out.I think I am going to get other stuff for it first.

I would say go for a K&N w/ outerwares and run without your airbox lid, with a change in jetting and the pipe, you will love it

I just bought a new UNI friday. It is bigger than the stock filter. So It should flow a little better.
I was looking on HMf's web-site.And the dyno sheet for the full system and the slip on is the same?
I also plan on getting air box lid vents.I don't like running my bikes without and airbox lid.Even if it is slower.

TC cam - 230
FMF slip on - 270
500 bucks
got both used......
FMF - 70
Cam - 30
wow i saved 400 bucks and got the same performance:devil:

I would guess the dyno is the same on a STOCK 400ex with both, but i would assume there would be more of a difference on a modded engine because the hmf header should have better flow...

Right around $10,000 in the R not including the hundreds of hours of labor. A little here and there, it adds up
It would take too long to list everything, don't wanna bore ya. lol.

I guess i'll bore everyone.
330 -39mm Fcr
200 -x-6 pipe
25 - Uni filter
150 -for this heat dissipatingcoating on my inner cases cylinder and head
70 - In polishing the outer cases
900 -Full race port job oversived intake valves , stainless exhaust valves valve springs, valve guides, hardend rockers and megacycle cam
280 - 440 sleeve and 13:1 Je piston
90 - Heavy duty head studs
25 - CRF 450 timing chain
550 - Powroll stroker crank and Heavy duty rod
200 - GtThunder 8 plate clutch setup
Better be worth it. Most of it is payed for just waiting on the rocker cover i bought for my 440 motor so i can sell my 440 motor to pay for the rest of it.
