in the garbage! Why would you want to destry a perfectly good bike with a KTM engine? Those things are finiky piles of crap. I work on them at work and I would rather work on any number of other bikes. I would much rather have an XR650 engine anyday. Ya ya it's kick start but electric start is for pansys anyway. If you want a real bike it should be a kick start.

lmao.

Have you tried calling a dealer? Maybe you can buy a crate motor from KTM, but you're probably looking for a used one. I would keep an eye on ebay, cycletrader, and maybe try to find a KTM forum.

Hi, I have a KTM Lonestar 450. The KTM will NOT fit an EX. I tried that as well. Best bet is to buy a bike and part it out, stay away from the 03's, get an 02 or 04. Remember SX models are 4 speed, exept for 02 400sx, EXC and MXC have electro start but different tranies.

I know there is a '01 KTM MXC with electric start in Des Moines. They are asking $3200 for. I was trying to get a guy at work to buy it, his wife said no. :( I have some pic of it on my computer at work. You can email me and I can send them to you. O'HaraAnthonyJ@JohnDeere.com
Also check www.mxiowa.com ;)

Ooops, sorry to mention it is a 400 MXC. I have an '02 400 EXC and it is awsome. KTM really needs to build a quad! :D I checked mxiowa and there is a 520 sx for sale on that site.

thomas yes i've seen your quad on here before its awesome. what do you mean it won't fit? do you mean the motor mounts won't line up or do you mean its physically too big?

oynot 3200 is pretty pricey. i can buy a 520 for that price. i have seen 2 450 motors go for 1500 on ebay. i'd like to just get a motor if i could.

That was the price for the whole bike and I didn't think that was bad price for the bike. Then again I have seen 525 go for slightly more then a 400 or 450.
If it was me, I would want the 520 or 525 for a quad. :D

The motor will not fit because of the waterpump up on the left side.
You would have to cut out the upper frame rail, not a good idea!!
Also the KTM is very wide at the swingarm pivot, so you require a special swing arm.
The 400 EXC can be converted to a 450 by bolting on a 520 cylinder and a Wiseco piston. That's what mine has.
Get a CRF less of a headache, cleaner conversion for an EX.

could i just tilt the engine maybe more? also what if i didn't use the swingarm pivot. what if i reinforced the stock area and just had the stock swingarm go thru there and then nothing went thru the back of the ktm motor or maybe some custom mounts? do you think a 520 engine would fit? i'd rather have the 520 anyways
