shifting problems

My friend has a 2001 400 ex and when he shifts into third gear under load it pops right back out.I rode his quad and it did the same thing with me too ne one have any suggestions because i thought it was a clutch problem like i had until i rode it....

Sounds like the shift fork is bent.
