I Have a stock 250X that when I start it for the first 8 or so seconds it burns oil. Any ideas???. I ride the bike around 4,500-5,500 foot elevation. Could it be that I need to rejet the carb?

It also idles rough, and when the engine gets warm the idiling speed goes way up

What makes you think you are burning oil? Is the exhaust black? Jetting will have nothing to do with burning oil, this is usually related to a ring failure. If a ring is shot it will burn oil all the time not just at start up.

A bad valve seal will let oil from in the valve train get into the cylinder while the engine is shut off. Then when you start it back up, you'll get the blue smoke when it starts, then it will clear up.

If that's all it does, I probably wouldn't worry about it. If it starts smoking all the time, then I'd start worrying.

well maybe not burn but leak...but mostly if the engine is burning oil by bad rings, valve seals, or most top end failure..its gonna smoke or smell....good luck fixin it

I'm with Scott, if it only does it when you first start it, but then quits after a few seconds, it's probably just a valve seal. A few drops of oil leak through and get onto the piston after you shut it off, and then it takes a few seconds to burn it off when you start it up; no big deal, just a minor annoyance.

If it smokes all the time and gets worse as the motor gets hotter, then you've got ring troubles.

pull your plug and see if the electrode has more than enough oil on it. otherwise u need to reseat your valve and/or get new rings. when it sits oil will seep into the cylinder then will burn up right away when u start it. mine does it to.
