Ive heard of people making 300EX oil coolers from 350X coolers? Has anyone out there done this? What did you need to do it? Did you by a new oil filter cover with holes for the lines? Im thinking you could take a 350X oil cooler, and get a oil filter cover from FST, just order a replacement oil filter cover with all the mounts for the lines then use the 350X cooler, you could save money doing this, anyone think this is a good idea, or has anyone done this? Thanks for info in advance

This would probably be more expensive and time consuming. Factory parts cost alot for ATC's. Just get the fst oil cooler and it will be better.

I saw one that used a tansmission cooler from a truck (no particular one, they are small and about the same size). You would have to cut your oil line about two inches from where it goes into the cam and spin it to face the front of the bike. Use a copper-line-flaring tool to flange the tubing. Then you can attach teh cooler to the tubing using rubber hose and hose clamps. The cooler would need some mounts made to fit up under the frame by the front shock mounts. Remember to fill the cooler with oil (clamp the hoses with vice grips until attached) or the cam will not get oil right away.

The hoememade oilcooler that is made from a truck transmisison-cooler costs around $35.00 from an auto parts store. Try it, you'll save $100.

just be careful that there is enough oil pressure to move the oil through the cooler to the engine.

PsychoDave-

What do you mean enough oil pressure?

charlie, what hes trying to say is that if set up wrong, it could lower your oil pressure. by doing that, oil will not flow as effectivly throughout the engine as it should be. and we all know what happens when there is a lack of oil..

the oil cooler is a good idea on a 300ex i am putting a 350x oil cooler on mine now that i modifided myself and i am gettin alumunim brackets welded to it. if you get a truck transmission oil cooler just make sure you dont get one too big because you can have too much oil cooling and the oil wont function to clean the motor like its susposed to. just thought you might wanna know that.

KennyG300EX-

What do you need to install the 350X oil cooler? A special oil filter cover?
