to get a stock 300ex engine rebuilt, what would that cost to pay someone to do?

also, how much would it be to buy a new one?

depends on what all you need, just piston, rings, hone and labor, maybe 350 or less. dont buy a new motor, way cheaper to rebuild. i'm sure if one of the engine builders on this site knew what happened or what is wrong with your motor, they could give you a pretty good estimate on what it would cost

case has a hole near sprocket, about dime size from a rock. motor runs great just wont hold oil, i figure u need to take the motor all apart to fix that so what not have it freshened up. most likely wont need machine work. just new rings bearings etc

I've heard of people who have repaired such holes with some JB Weld. You just grind/sand around the hole to give it some teeth then get some metal screen and cut a patch a bit bigger than the hole and patch it up! It may take a couple of coats to get it filled in.
