View Full Version : Shortening Exhaust

Hey guys, I am wanting to shorten my exhaust on my quad. I have a t-4 slip on. I know there are some other threads about this, but I am wanting to know, power gains or losses. How much louder is it actaully?

Also I looked at my Slip on today, and it has 3 allen heads that hold on the tip. And 3 rivets that hold the pipe on I assume. So what i do is take off the tip, then drill out the old rivets. Cut how much I want, then rivet it back in? Is this about it or am I missing something? Any help would be great. Thanx Guys:p

Theres no point in doing it. You may gain a minute amount of power down low, but it makes it ridiculously loud.

It is supposed to bring out low end. I am considering buying another silencer and having it done so my brake caliper won't hit it.

When I was waiting for my HMF to come, the day before I got my exhaust, I took off my stock Honda exhaust. After I was done I started up my 400 with no exhaust system on it. It was only running through the headers to the midpipe. So I'm assuming the more of your canister you cut off, the louder your quad will be, personally if I were you I wouldn't do it, because when I started up my 400 with it running from the headers it sounded as loud as, if not louder then a Harley Davidson.

My Harley is pretty loud, I dunno about it being louder:eek2: But, I had as well heard it increases low end grunt.:huh

im cutting my hmf when it comes if it is close or sticks out past the grab bar. most people do it for the noise and it dose give u a little more low end. they also do it in case they get rear ended in a race they dont ruin their pipe;)

so if i were to shorten my 250x exhaust i would get more low end???
