if you guys didnt know, and i noticed aot of people complain about fouling plugs on their 400's all the time when starting it up, its cuz ur not supposed to keep stabbing throttle, just hold it there and if it sounds like its gonna die you can stab it then but not much. its cuz the accelerater pump thingy that sends extra fuel ontop of using the choke so ots almost like theres no air at all in the mixture. i found this out today from the mechanic at my dealer when i picked up the quad and he was going over the controls and everything. so dont call me captain obvious or anything just trying to help some people that are always fouling plugs and dont know why.:)

choke doesnt give it more fuel, it just blocks air flow to richen it up

i meant ontop of choke that the choke let less air in the mixture. sry i didnt make that clear

Stabbing the throttle won't foul the plug unless your jetting is horribly rich. At worst it will flood the engine and stall it. Learn to jet and you wont have to worry about fouling plugs.

I understand that, but he isn't entirely correct. His solution is like leaning your premix ratio out because you foul plugs. It is a bandaid that sort of works if you don't want to address the real issue of jetting.

constantly hitting the gas before you start it will make the plug wet. i usually find it best to pump the throttle a couple of times at most and then just hit the start button without hitting the gas.
