grrr Compaqs!!!

QJ is yers a Compaq also. they seem to have trouble with XP configuring the internet connection.

also, are either of y'all on cable? grid congestion can make that crap happen also.

if it happens you can do this:

Start>Run>in box type CMD
this will bring up yer Command window
type tracert <insert ip address here>

IP address for EXriders.com = 216.139.207.222

this will run a trace of every hop it takes to get to EXriders with listings for 3 ping times and the ip addy of the hop(some with DNS names also)

hopefully there aren't any asterisks for the hop times.

if it starts going all asterisks then there is a hop that is down without any IP redirect routes.

if the ping numbers are HUGE then there is big time congestion along your route.

hopefully this helps...if not i guess you can call me. send PM hehe.

i'm not Chinese. i'm American, of Filipino decent:D

try the ping thing next time it happens....see if it gets at least 1 hop away.

if it doesn't then yer TCP/IP protocol is FUBAR'ed. resetting the computer reloads the settigns for this. that's how yer able to get back on.

it can also be other things like if yer on a hub connected to a DSL/cable router, and stuff :D

here's what my TRACERT from work looks like:

I have that happen to me once and a while. What it seems like to me is that the website your trying to access is having a server problem, that's why it won't come up. As for going to microsoft update, I used to do all that stuff and once I updated my IE 6 with some kind of patch they had everytime I would long onto the internet it said that Internet Explorer has an internal error it will be closed. Well after all that crap I formatted my hard drive and not updated my windows at all, guess what no more problems. Haven't had a problem with anything, and I reinstalled everything about a year ago. Hopefully this helps:D

AWWW, damn Lamens! haha!

Dont need to reinstall Windows when tcp/ip is f'd up.
run this command to reinstall tcp/ip:
netsh int ip reset (file name: ex: ip_reset.txt)

Rico is right! Run Windows Update on a regular basis!

hessianmx111 - have you cleared your cache/ temp internet files? Does it happen all only on certain pages? Is it the pc that is running slow? What type of connection do you have? Dialup? Cable? DSL?

Do run a ping command: Go to Start -> Run -> cmd -> OK. Type ping 216.139.207.222 (taken from batgeek). If you get 4 replies, ping www.exriders.com. If you get 4 replies, tcp/ip is working fine. If you do not get any replies from either ping command. Run this: ping 127.0.0.1, look for 4 replies. If you get 4 replies tcp/ip is working, and your connection is experiencing "down time." Whether its on your machine or the ISP will be dertemined by this.

let me know if you need more help!
