I think that one starts out the same way as Kory Ellis's, but the feed back is a little different. Sounds like it will be a competitive machine, which we knew it would be. Can't wait to swing a leg over one.

I think this is going to be my next quad real soon. Anyone know the horsepower of the yz450f? I know its useable power that counts but it gives me a good idea.

not quite.

Originally from www.gtthunder.com
In this graph I have the cam mod done as well as no airbox lid, 170 main jet, #5 clip position on the needle and the stock pilot jet. The ... run is with the new HMF full system exhaust. Yes I had to beg and many other things to get to test this and no I did not get to keep it but it sure looks good to me.

That graph shows the difference in hp readings from stock tires and the tires GT Thunder uses. The 49.1 hp reading came from the graph that is listed above that one.

First off GTthunders dyno's tend to be very much more generous then everyone elses dynos. Every dyno will be a little different. There was a company that sells exhaust that dyno'd the YZF at 37.2 hp stock with dyno tires. They also had the Raptor at aobut the same. I know most people dynos will dyno a stock raptor at 37.

My guess is that GTthunders dyno is off. They probably know its off too.

Everyone's dynos are different and really it doesn't show you anything about how the bike performs in the real world. Most of them use dyno tires and it produces alot more hp just as the post above proves. I want to believe the higher numbers but it is hard to not question them if you have any sort of intellect. just like it says that the 450r will have 48 hp with the hcr kit  who knows though it could be true and I am sure on someones dyno somewhere it will post something similiar. the only true way to use a dyno is to compare bikes to eachother or to compare modifications to eachother on the same dyno, the same day, with the same temp and the same amount of forced air infront of the quad. This will give accurate results in evaluating power curves and makes testing jetting, pipes, shootout ect.... reliable

I've seen a stock Predator dyno 44.3 hp
A modded Z440 at 41.8
and a stock YFZ 450 at 35.2

This was all done same day, same tires, same dyno, same temps, same fuel.

what's up with GT Thunder, in every dyno I have seen them post the HP numbers always seem to be elevated no matter what bike?

pleasure4qt,
that is pretty intresting, I would like to see the results if you have them. That is pretty high for the predator and kinda low for the moded z but it depends on what it has done to it. In stock form the yfz is pretty corked up for emissions and I would make any claims that it should have more hp, the jetting is off from the factory to me california smog, the exhaust is super restrictive and . Wait to you get the 450r on the dyno you will see that the numbers that honda is posting are just like the numbers posted in the past, exaggerated or at the fly wheel. Honda is a great company but like other manufacturers they like to sell their products and advertise numbers that are at the flywheel. I could be proven wrong though it is highly unlikly. Again this all doesn't mean the honda is slower than the yamaha or vise-versa.

this 42 hp we keep hearing of will probably be to the crank of the TRX450r. That means its more like 37 to the wheels, maybe 36. So it should be the same as a YZF450.

According to the cover of dirtwheels the yfz was supposed to be 45 hp but it only dynos at about 36 hp stock. I think some people felt like yamaha was trying to trick them. I think honda knows that and are going to give a more accurate account of their hp numbers so its not a big deal like it was with the yami
