The 416 is just an overbore on the stock cylinder. You need to bring it to a machine shop or engine builder to have the cylinder bored out - you need a special tool that is similar to a drill press to do it.

Once you ahve the cylinder bored, it is just a matter of buying the piston kit and installing it. Pick up a service manual - it is necesary.

I would agree a service manual is very handy...
Items you need are the
416 piston kit
a cam (not a must have, but compliments the 416 very well)
top end gasket kit
Maybe some valve seals
and tools
take the cylinder to the machine shop once you get the piston and have it bored

Valve seals do not need to be replaced - only if they are leaking. It isn't necesary to remove the valves to do the 416 kit.

A torque wrench, normal sockets and extensions, gasket scraper, caliper (to measure stud height), open end wrenches, screwdrivers, maybe some pliers.

If it's an 01 and you are going through the time to do the job right I would suggest replacing the valve seals.I assume you havent replaced them so why not do it now why the machine is down, you wouldn't want to have to do it in a couple of months when everyone else is riding.Take care of your baby and she will take care of you.I also suggest a manual makes things alot easier.

I would recommend a JE or a Ross 416 piston,as far as a cam depends on your cash flow.I stand behind TC's XC cam 110%.

it was a while ago,a month maybe.but can you give me a quote or would it be better if i call ya.
also, when the 416 kit is in,would i have to change the head bolts,or do i have to change them on a higher compression engine.,ie,425,440

Do the headbolts. When mine was a 416 it pulled one and 2 more as a 440.
