Sounds like you have a leaking ring that is causing oil to burn. Is your oil level dropping?

The most common cause for burning oil is leaking rings, which can be caused by worn out rings or a worn out cylinder. When you have the cylinder off, check the condition of the sleeve. If it shows excessive wear or has any scratches you need to bore it or replace the sleeve. If the sleeve is fine, order a new set of rings and replace them. I would check the piston before ordering new rings, because it is cheaper and much easier to replace it all at once instead of buying new rings, then determining the piston needs to be replaced, and having to order that, and wait, etc.

Leaking valve seats can also cause oil burning.

I blew smoke when first starting and revving it up. It's an 02' with maybe 200 hrs. My oil level was still good so I asked the same questions. I found out that all it was, was oil from the air filter being sucked up into the carb and motor. Excess oil from the bike sitting for awhile collected at bottom of filter next to carb boot.
Oh well, worth checking.

I dont think a stripped spark plug hole could have any effect on oil entering the engine.

skidplate - That seems kind of odd. Are you using oil designed for foam air filters? Are you wiping the excess off when you oil the filter? Filter oil is very sticky, so you may want to clean your carb out if it is sucking that stuff in. I would hate for the throttle to get stuck open.

What color is the smoke, if it's blue then you would have a problem. A blackish smoke means you'd be a little rich.

hondafox440,
I came to this conclusion after just oiling my filter with PJ1 foam filter spray on oil. I must of had excess to the max, because it smoked like a feen. I took it off and soaked up the excess and it quit blowing smoke. It still does it on start up some and it is blue.
