Is theere a big difference between the two. I am planning on getting a JE 10.8.1 piston, HRC cam(or hotcam stg 1, cant decide), and a hd cam chain. Is this a good setup? which cam would be the best for mostly trails, and occasional track time? I dont think i will need hardened rockers and hd spring, but if i do please tell me.

cot cam 1 is a bottom end cam. for mostly trails and hillclimbing thats what im getting. it also depends on the track. lot of technicial little jumps with tight turns a 1 would be fine. and id just go with a 416. were pretty much going to have the same quad over the winter. im building mine for trails and hills.

Kaschak, I recommend the WB r-4 exhaust if you havent got a pipe already. It really seemed to wake my motor up more than my buddies e-series. Thats just my opinion.

The power difference isn't much between a 416 and a 406. If you plan on having your bike for quite a while, then a 406 will give you at least one more reliable overbore. The compression ratio and cam are where the majority of your power increase is going to come from, there is only a 1mm difference between the two bores. I bought the stage 1 hotcam and I've had great luck. The bottom end is stronger than stock (with the increased CR), and the mid-to-top end is much better. The HRC cam is great, if you can swing the price.

I just got my motor rebuilt with the JE 12.5:1 416, and a stage 2 hotcam, and it's awesome. I can come into corners i'd normally have to downshift in, and just throttle it and it pulls out with any bogging. I haven't noticed any loss in low end with the stage 2, and the top end is unreal compared to stock.

i am running an 11 compression 406 with stage 2 cam and i didn't notice a loss of low end power either. i found that first gear is much more useable on a track and trails. just keep the rpm's up and it will have power.

I run the HRC cam also with a JE 10.8-1 piston 416 bore. You won't be disapointed.

I have a 406 with the 11:1 Wiseco with the Webcam 450/451 and it rips!! A friend of mine thinks I'm BS him, I tell him its a 406 and he thinks its a 440 or something. I really don't too much about Hotcams but I am really pleased with the Webcam. Yes, I did have to get the hardened rockers but I think its worth it. As for the cam chain, I wouldn't do that unless your gonna go 440 or bigger! If you think down the road you will?, then do it!

I would go 416, my buddy has one with stock cam and it runs real good. I have a 425, it's a good choice too, just had to bore. I also have the stage one hot cam. You will not be disappointed in the bottom and mid range. I didn't notice a huge difference in top like I did in the bottom. You may want to check out the XR cam too, it is close to the stage one cut, but has compression release.

I had a 406, 11.1 with the same cam I do now. It was just strong enough that it would jump out in front of a stock Z-400 and stay there.

Now, I went up to a 435, 12.5.1; made a very nice power gain.

my 10.8 compression 406 with stage 2 cam walks away from the z's and kfx's without a problem given that they are stock. i actually raced a z when my 400ex just had airbox mods and jetting. he jumed me off the line and we were dead even until fifth, then I pulled. now sure how my stock 400ex pulled on him, but it did. this kid got a kfx and he just smoked my stock ex. i put my cam and piston in and now towards end of fith gear i am at least 10 bikes in front of him. however, i did add a sparks pipe too.
