So I was on yamahas site the other day looking at snowmobiles. how can they take a R1 motor and slap it into a snowmobile but not do the same for a quad. There basically the same types of things. I've only ridden a couple of snowmobiles and those frigg'en things are fast as *****. I need one:blah: and a waverunner and a new motorcycle and a new quad and some other toys too:D

I don't know if it would work. That motor is big and heavy and you would be hard to get the power to the ground.

yeah but i thought that company's where so worried about getting sued that they put limits on the sizes of engins that go into quads. but the put a 1000cc motor in a snowmobile? How come snowmobile get the bad press like quads

1000 cc four stroke engine in a BIG heavy pig . The RX-1 motor isn't producing too much horsepower for a sled . I know you can buy a turbo kit for it from Bender Racing that will boost it up to 300HP but the kit is also 10 Grand. A Rev 800 H.O will walk an RX-1 hands down . Yamaha needs to step up to the plate and make a sled that isn't the size of a bus.

Because then your quad would weigh 600 lbs. and cost $9000 just like a snowmobile.

Snowmobiles dont cost $9000, we got our 03 Rev 600 h.o. for under $4700 brand new. RX1's are so overrated, they weigh 600 pounds dry. a Mach z will beat it.

If you live up in the Great White North , look to spend about 10 , 11 or 12 thousand for a new sled. RX1 is at 11 soemthing . The new Rev's are about 12 out the door.

That sux, snowmobiling is so much fun, i cant imagine spending $10,000 on a sled, even in canadian. you can find year old sleds that never sold around here for $5,000 and cheaper brand new, a 98-2000 Mach z which would beat a RX1 you can get used for less than $3,000.

i hate yammi, but the rx1 is a great sled. first of all four stroke, its not that heavy, and is fast 145 h.p.. yammi still sucks though, then again i would trade my artic cat in for the rx1

Ain't that the truth!

I remember one time last season once I got out of the truck after the ride up there and we were un-packing our riding gear, and I saw a RX-1 and a Firecat line up next to eachother, were going 5mph and both cracked the throttle - guess who won? The Firecat SMOKED the chit out of the RX-1. But I was doing about 95 once on my RXL 650 and my buddy was behind me, hit the throttle and ran right by me like I was standing still, they do really good from a roll on that high speeds, but I'll tell ya the Firecat is the way to go, I am going to get a Firecat no matter what it takes!:blah:

EDIT: and yes a Mach will smoke an RX-1. Once when we were at my friends house there was a guy who pulled over to the side of the road to check his Mach out, I guess he thought something happened to his ski, he hit the throttle and the front skis came up off the ground, I've never seen anything more cool and heard anything that sounded so powerful! It looks soooooo cool when a snowmobile can do wheelies:D

well, it was left over from last year and the owner put 85 miles on it... BUT i consider that brand new. my dad sat on it and put $500 down, hes getting it end of this month. along with a Brand new 0 miles 2002 mxz 700 for around the same price. so about 10,000 for 2 brand new nice sleds.

there from 2 different dealers, its kinda wierd were getting brand new sleds that are 1 and 2 years old, but hey i think its alot better than only getting 1 04 sled. im very excited for december :D

How hard was it to put that engine in your TB, my dad has a TB and he is looking for something faster after riding my 400EX, I saw the pictures you posted and told him that we could put a 2 cylinder snowmobile engine in it and it would be alot cheaper then selling it and buying a new quad. Do you think a 500cc engine would fit in there? What's the fastest you've gone on your TB with that engine in it?

I got 2 friends with a Mach 1 700 and a ZR 700 . Both are studded and piped and they both hold their own . The Ski-doo is a lil faster though. I can get on either sled and walk it for the length of the bay we run in ( about half a mile long ) It's amazing . Another guy i know has a 1010cc Cat . This thing is wild . Has about 22 000 dollars invested . Fastest thing on the lake . I'll also try and dig out some pics of my uncle's sled back in the day . Was a Mach 1 with a nitrous kit . Was the fastest sled in Canada for a little while . Ran over 180 mph on the lake on radar. Once the bay freezes over I'll take the digi cam out and snap some pics . It's awesome , when theres about 4 inches of ice , you'll catch about 300 sleds out there running 10 wide all day long . Its cool cuz the bay inst very deep ( maybe 6 feet) and its the first lake to freeze in our region . Nothing like waking up in the morning and listening to sleds running wide open . Our shop also sponsors a world record holder for fastest sled . Damn Proud Of it.

well you could probly put a 800RMK engine in it if you whant to. wee made that quad for about $$400 canadian (not including the cost of the quad) you will need to extent the swigarm 2-3 inch
if you have your clutching right then that thing would bee insane by the way you whant to buy my engine it's onyl $$200?:eek2:

Personally if it were me, I'd probably buy it for the $200. But this is my dad's quad and his money. He thinks that everything on the internet is a scam:rolleyes: so he won't want to buy it, my dad's friend does have an older ski-doo like a 95 500cc, so we will probably pay him like $300 for his engine and put it in the TB if we decide to go through this. One question - why do you have to extend the swingarm 2-3 inches?

if ya dont extend the swing arm you'll be doin wheelies when you dont want to.

yaa that 500 would put out about 110hp soo a quad that is made for a 22hp would just bee wheelieing all the time and eaven with 2-3' it would still wheelie:eek:

LOL...not a problem! My dad doesn't have much time to ride, but when he does boy will he shut all of our friends up! "Hey what the hell are you still doing with that slow TB...you'll see!" During the winter time we usually go out on the lake too, you can bet your bare arse I will be taking it out on the lake and having my brother record me fly by on it :p If we decide to go through with this project I'll post pics of it as it matures, etc. etc. I wonder what a Firecat engine would do!:blah:

I do wonder how it would handle on all the tight trails...I would imagine just as normal as a quad would and as powerful as a snowmobile would too.

exatak199
11-12-2003, 05:57 PM
it would bee prity good in trails but if it's tight you couldn't pinn it................................................ .....or you could and see what happens :D

I'm not up for that:p but at this point my dad isn't denying the fact that he doesn't want to do it - I told him it would be alot cheaper then buying a new quad. I just wish we still had our old arctic cat el tigre - it was preety ballsy for an 88 snowmobile, it was nice and small too, seems like it would've popped right in and I could've done it this summer if I'd thought about it.
