port work...

this winter i am getting my 400 built to a 426 with some port and polish work. if i keep the stock 400ex carb is it gonna affect my power drastically...........or is it better just to get the 426 without the port and polish seeing how i have the stock carb?

You certainly won't hurt performance with a port/polish, even with the stock carb. However, strictly in terms of money, you may see better performance spending your money on an aftermarket carb instead of a port/polish.

Then again, I could be wrong, perhaps somebody else can comment on that last statement.

IT also depends on the Port work done. I'd say going with a full race port will not work very good at all with a stock carb. Just tell the person doing the port work your running a stock carb,,they won't go any bigger than they need too..:cool:
