My Truck got broken into again. [Archive]

Well, for the second time this year my truck has been broken into. Both times they shattered either my driver or passenger side window. Both times they knew what they were doing because they left the door shut so the panic alarm would not go off. Thankfully they left my valentine on the front window both times, but they did take my alpine head unit. Since I have put 2 other claims on my insurance, i couldn't afford for it to go up any more, so I decided to pay for it out of pocket. Fortunately I found someone that will replace my window for 110 dollars :eek2: which is very convenient, because last time I paid over 330 dollars for it to be replaced. Well, basically what im going to do is get an alarm. I know that it won't necessarily make people not break into my car, but when they do it will scare them enough to start sprintin. Since i am only 17 and in between jobs, what security system do you think i should look into, something that has a good price range and has many functions to it. I have a friend with a clifford and he loves it, i am looking at those...and if anyone has heard of the GM alarms tell me about those. I just need some input because im tired of this stuff happening to me.

Not to bust your bubble, but how much difference is an alarm going to make?

Where are you leaving your vehicle that it is getting broken into? Do you live in a bad area?

Did both break in's accure in the same area?

well when ya put expensive toys in your vehicles you might as well hang a sign on it that says come and get me :o

just nature of territory and i think alarms are the biggest crock of crap nowdays too how often have you walked thru a parking lot and heard sombodies alarm goin off and you look and its just some old guy fumbling with his remote tryring to figure out how to turn the blasted thing off cause he hit the wrong button and it happens so offten that you don't even think anything of it when you hear and alarm go off

Those alarms are gay. They go off for no reason. If i heard my neibors alarm go off, i wouldnt even go outside and see if it got broken into. They are ****ty and not worth the money.

if you have the alarm properly installed then it will work good, also some alarms have beepers that go off, which is what I plan on buying for mine:devil:

if you want to get an alarm that will actually make a difference, you will need to pay a pretty penny, My buddy has one where when the alarm goes off, a pager he has for it will go off, I think he said it was about $400.

like i said, i know having an alarm will not stop people from breaking into my car, im just saying that it will most likely scare them so they will get out of there as fast as they can, i would much rather have a broken window than a broken window and stereo, radar, and system stolen. the first time my car was broken into it was parked in the parking lot at school, during school. this weekend it was parked behind my house.

Where is it parked when it gets broken into? If it's outside in front of your house, the burglar is going to run as soon as the alarm goes off. If it's someplace public, the alarm isn't going to stop him, because he knows you are probably too far away to hear it, and nobody else cares...

just get some stickers of an alarm company, something that says like police responding. then get somekind of a blinking light and set it out ur dash, probably would do more than an alarm...lol

valentine is a radar. personally i think it is the best on the market, but almost everyone else think it is tied w/ the escort 8500. its worth about 400 bucks and i really don't feel like losing it. :eek:

i got my truck broekn into awhile back, stole my whole system except amps and cd changer which were bolted in. if you haven't tried it already, start using a detachable faceplate. unless someone doesn't like you, a thief isn't gonna find any use in going through the hassle of prying an unusable deck out. also, bolt down subs, amps anyway you can. despite what others say, get an alarm. someone trying to jack your chit is more than likely going to run if you have an alrm going off, especially if it is at night. it will atleast wake you up and give you a chance of catching them if they are stupid enough to keep trying. if you have everyhting bolted down and an alarm, they'll not only have a hell of a time getting stuff out without tools, but they'll never be able to do it while ana alarm is going off. if it goes off in public and people see some dude struggling to get somehting out of your truck, they prob won't just walk away. if it has happened twice, sounds like you have some enemies...

Usually theft is covered under your insurance w/ out penalties. Have you contacted yout agent? If he is the one who told you that, you might want to consider another agent, place to live, or truck. Sounds like you are a marked man.

My sub box and amp are bolted down to the cab of the truck. I have a detachable face and everytime i go in for the night or i go to school i take the face out and put it in my glovebox and lock it. I usually park my truck in the front but i wasn't feeling very well and parked it in the back. I didn't move my truck for another 2 days because i was sleeping the whole time (i now find out that i have mono). i don't have an aftermarket alarm, it is a panic alarm i guess or whatever gm gives on their vehicles, the panic alarm doesn't start going off unless a door is unlocked from the inside then opened. I don't necessarily think people are after me, because the first time my car got broken into at school, 2 other people the same day their stuff got taken too. and i think there were like 4 other kids from my school since then that have gotten their system taken. then this weekend i had a friend w/ a cj-7 and he got his amps and subs taken. so i don't think they are only after me.

last time my truck got broken into i claimed it under insurance, and it was a 250$ deductable. plus my premiums went up. the total damage is only going to be about 250 this time so their is no point in claiming it to insurance and raising my premiums more.

people steal **** like crazy, my 2 freinds cars got broke into the same night, RIGHT in front of a apartment complex, theres nothing you can do for theives, ive had people steal stuff out of our cars in my sub division. theres nothing you can do...... each time they stole only faceplates of cd players and cd's, some stupid *** theives if you ask me, if im going to steal something its going to be worthwhile.

If you live at home, the stuff inside your truck is covered under your parents homeowners. It falls under unscheduled personal property.

If you do get an alarm system, contact your agent and let them know to inform your insurance company that you did install an alarm system. The insurance company will give you a credit on your policy and lower your premium. The credit is around 5%. If they see that you are at least trying to minimize losses, they will be less likely to cancel you.
