Dropped valve on 400ex...HELP

well my 400 stopped workin a month or two ago, and i just rode my predator, well now its in the shop cause it has a short i cant find and i found out my 400 has what i think is a dropped valve. i noticed it was lower than the other exhaust valve when i took the head cover off and tapped on it a little. it release, but when i tapped on it some more, it got stuck again and so on.....do i need a new valve or what? please let me know. thanks

Maybe a new valve spring? Or the timing gear? I'm not really an expert on four strokes, 2 strokes I know much more about.

You mean if you push the valve down, into the cylinder, it sticks? but when you tap on it, it will pop up? If so, it sounds to me like the valve stem is bent just a hare, causing it to stick in the valve guide.

sounds like pulling the head off is your only option to see whats the problem?:(
