Just got my Image Dynamics ID 12inch woofers and a set of Chameleon Component Speakers. I also have a rockford Fosgate EQ and Phoenix Gold amps. Cant wait to install it in my SUV! The stock speakers cant hang with the type of music I listen to. Anyone here into car stereos?

I used to be into car audio before quads sucked up all my money :D
My daily driver (GMC Yukon) has a system I built for the IASCA 151-300w sound Q class.
It's got an alpine head unit (4v preout, all that crap), 12 disc changer in the console, alpine 60x2 amp powering MB Quart mids and highs in custom made kick panels, a MTX 75x2 (even though it's pushing 480w mono) powering 4 JL audio 10's in a custom sealed enclosure i made out of 1" HDF (yea it's fuggin heavy). Monster interconnects, etc. It does pretty well for a 151-300w class system.
Next system I build won't be for a class so i'm gonna go big on power.

I got a full MB Quart interior. Front components and 6X9 rears for the fill - oh yeah and 3 JL10w6's pushing 1000 watts in a custom box. All in an accord coupe - I love when people hear me listening to music at a light and they turn up their music trying to blow me away or somthing. I then proceed to rattle THEIR car.

I was into competition and doing custom installs for several years. I still love doing it, just can't afford it as much now due to this damn ATV addiction. hehe.

2 Kicker 12" L7s with a Fosgate Power800a2 on those, Planet Audio 3-way components, 6 1/2" Planet Audio Coax and 6 1/2" fosgate Coax, with the 3 ways and the Planet coax pushed by a fosgate 401s, and a Pioneer 8400MP deck.

Why do you need that much bass? Especially in a truck. My friend has 2 Kenwood 600W 10's in the trunk of his Celica and when you crank the bass all the way up on the deck it hurts, and you can't hear the music anymore.

Good words of advice.

I used to spend money on car audio then I started to notice hearing losses over the years. Things I could hear before I couldn't hear anymore. I was real cool back in the day to bad I'm 20 and people have to speak up for me to hear them. The loudest and last system I had was 2 audiobahn 1205's powered by and audiobahn 2300hcx in a 7 cu. ft ported box. This was all inside an extended cab GMC 2500HD. The head unit was a Panasonic 810. I had a 300amp circut breaker under the hood to handle all the power. I thought I was really cool when I could shake other cars 10 cars down and what not. It was a waste of money and think what you will it does affect your hearing and it will do it fast. Oh this systems highest DB was 149.8 on a 33hz test tone. Anyone that knows about base knows how fun it is to go loud at such a low tone.

First off you ask who has a car stereo. I;m pretty sure all cars come from the factory with one, at least my new truck did..:huh

Anywho i'm with the post above this one. I had a boomin, ghetto thumpin, ground shaker system in my car from the age of 16 until I was about 24. Well I too have hearing loss from this. :( Lookin cool is nice and all but when you can't hear that sucks. How you gonna hear that hot chick callin your name when your deaf...:blah:

My hearing actually prevented me from getting the job I wanted in the Air Force. I wasn't allowed in any maintenance fields because of it... That was from my band days though. Now I still am hardheaded. I have 2, 12" Cerwin Vegas with a Kenwood amp and Kenwood Excelon deck. Doesn't sound too bad..........for a truck....

I"m gonna get something for my new truck and a 12 incher in a box might work, i'm thinkin 10" bass tube would do the trick, and not blow my eardrums out...:eek2:

my highs are positioned near the ears so its evened out a lot..... and i happen to like more bass than anything :) i like how my system is set up..... i wish i had even more now.... i need to get a better 1200 watt amp so i can bridge my 12s without blowing fuses left and right

Bass is cool and all but there comes a point where enough is enough. What is the point of playing music if you can understand the words or hear the guitars. I would imagine in a pickup truck (small cab), 4 subs makes the music sound just like buzzing with a bunch of groundshaking bumps.

i like mine, I got a pioneer deh-p7200 (it is dying) head unit, kenwood 6x9's in the doors and some nice kenwood 6.5's in the back, then 2 rockford z 10's and a 1000w sony xplode amp. nothing special but it suits me. I really need a new head unit though, it skips horribly

I used to be a basshead but got into the Sound-Q side of it. It's nice to have clear bass along with hearing the fingers slide up every fret of the guitar and every breath the singer takes.
I was worried about my hearing but I did a physical and its better than most so thats good. Gotta protect your ears, you only get 2. My dad has hearing loss from working on a lot of AA-fuel dragsters without using hearing protection. I'm trying to be more careful in my old age :D

let me start with the head unit. i have a pioneer 9300 which has 4 volt preouts. then i push my 4 mtx 6000's with a memphis 1000 watt amp. then for my mids and highs, i have a eclipse amp. the door and back speakers are the new polk db. they sound awsome. i have four gauge wire running to both amps. i need a cap on my memphis. the four tens are in a custom built box. all of this is in a 98 chevy z-71. the tens are behind the extend cab seat, and for all of yall that dont think this will fit, well it does and it sounds awsome. i also have the back of the truck dynomatted. it rattled like crazy before since the speakers are against the back wall of the truck.

well about too much bass, there is never too much bass. i have my subs running at -8 at on my head unit. i can hear the words of the song too. i think it has a great combination. before i had the mids and highs replaced the bass over powered the mids and highs. now that i have them amped as well and they are not the factory speakers, i can turn it up and still hear the words over the bass. i am just that person that needs a little bass but dont know what a little is. i was go big. why not?

I dont plan to turn it loud all the time but when time comes and your in the mood of playing it loud at least its there for you to bump it. I more into sound quality than just booming bass. It just sucks to have your favorite music playing and when you turn it up the sounds like crap and its about to rip apart :D

i have a system but its not in a car right now. its all pioneer. its kinda old now but when i got it it was pretty sweet. i got the head unit with the screen savers of dolphins and stuff, and up front i got 2 5 inch 3 way speakers, don't remember how many watts, in back i got 2 6x9 4 ways, 220 watts a peice i believe. i got a pioneer amp, 600 watts, and 2 12 inch pioneer subs, the ones that look like diamond plate. not a competition system by any means but it was still damn nice.

it sounds to me like alot of people have too much money on there hands.. I dont have alot but... I put together some stuff i had laying around , 4 bluapunk (sp?) 10's in an iceaberic (sp?)banpass box an 1000 wat legacy amp im sure its not RMS and a pioneer mp3 player. and 6x9 pioneers in the doors in my 93 probe gt its not all bass its for clarity and for what it cost me its pretty good i think i got like $180 in it all together

bigz-71
11-07-2003, 12:31 AM
shyt, i can barly touch the wires running from my battery to my amp for 180 bucks. i have way too much money in my system for just riding around but i like it so i think it worth the money. i also have xm in my truck. its sweet. i like it. you will not give your cds up totally. xm is not cd quality but if your wanting to have something to listen too at all times and something good xm is really nice. since you can listen to it anywhere and not in a certain city that the best part. well to every one out there with yall systems, i like seeing what everyone decides to do in their ride. systems are sweet.
