I have been away at school and I came back one weekend to ride my 400EX. Last time I rode was a month ago. I had to recharge the battery that time to ride it. Well, I put the key in and the green light didn't come on but the lights worked. When I hit the start button...nothing. No sound, no ticking (like the battery was dead)...nothing....but the lights worked. Battery again?

more then likely its the battery. once these small batteries get drained hard they never seem to work correctly

If its not the battery, change the fuse. Everynow and then my fuse blows on my 2002 400ex for some reason. Just change it and the sh*t should come to life :) If not, try to jump start it to see if it even will

This may be a stupid answer, but was it in gear when you tried to start it? That could be why the lights worked and the green light didnt come on...

There is also a wire that runs down the left side near the shifter not sure what it is but you will not start (at least I could not):grr: without it on.... it got knocked off during an unload I guess... took a while to find since it was not all the way off just held on by the rubber cover......

That would be your neutral indicater light wire.....tell when tranny is in neutral, and I THINK it will start with the clutch pulled in when that wire is off if nothing else.

On my EX, the wire is off also....it will start with the clutch pulled in.
