I have a 300ex with only a pipe, jet kit and a K&N filter. I was wondering if an oil cooler will really make the motor last longer or will keep the HP from fadeing during the summer months. Will it really make a difference with an "almost" stock motor? Should I invest the $ somwhere else? Thanks:confused:

i personally don't think it will give more power. i would have to bet the 300ex is like the 400ex. curtis sparks claims that the 400ex is just begging to be liquid cooled and cooler oil doesn't help much if any. i am running a slightly built 400ex with the stock oil tank and cooler and i don't have a problem with overheating so you should be fine. just don't let it sit there and idle for long periods of time.

If anything get yourself some inexpensive air scoops. ;)

i have had an experience with an over heated 400. but,, you have to factor in the vegas heat, moving pretty slow, and pulling a 190lb person on a toboggan in the sand. for average riding i would say it is not needed. invest your $$ else where, like was said above, invest in some scoops.

My 300 gets a little warm so like this summer we ran Motul oil in it cuz thats what they run in the crotch rockets so we thought it would make it run cooler....it helped a little but it's pretty expensive $15 a bottle:eek2: we just put a new piston, rings, & bored mine a little now I'm running just Honda oil in it. An oil cooler is pretty spendy I though, I think i'm gonna go w/ some air scoops this summer maybe.

My two friends and i all have 300's, both of them run coolers and i don't. To be honest i cant tell any difference between theres and mine, except i saved money by not buying one. I was always told the 300 won't need one unless you go big bore then it's a must

Thanks for all the info from everyone. The scoops sound like a good idea. I have yet to see any for a 300ex. Does anyone know where I can find them? Thanks again:D
