I have heard some rumors that the stage 2 hot cam causes a loss in low end power, right know i have alot of lowend with the timing advance and my cut lrd it semms to some to ahve to much but i like it for thw woods how much will i loose with a stage 2 hot cam? I want to get more mid top and all arround i am also gettinga 39mm fcr, how much low end will i loose?

It looks like i might be getting a xr 400 cam is this a good all arround cam will it give me back some mid range and top?

thanks for all the info btw i do woods racing so i am thinking about the xr400 to keep all the low end i can.

If you get a high compression piston it should make up the diffrence in the power you lose on the bottom.

You did not mention if you have changed your front sprocket... it not then I would suggest a 14 if you do not need all the top speed of 5th gear. I just had some work done to my 400 ... high compression piston, Stage 2 Hot Cam and port and flow... man does it haul..... however I do not race ... I run the 14 in the wood cause I run 22" Trailbreakers on the rear and the 15 tooth just did not let me move around trees and I was slipping my clutch way to much.....
Guess what I am saying I would not be afraid of the stage 2 from Hot Cam... but have read several posts about folks happy with the XR Cam.... let me know how it works out for you....

there wasn't too noticeable a drop in low end power when i put my stage 2 in. the cam is my only mod too besides a slip on pipe. she does good in the woods and everything. if the goings really tight and trecherous you'll find yourself slipping the clutch a lot which isn't good but this is only in some extreme situations. i had my quad up north in some narly trails we made and i had to abuse my clutch. for normal trails tho its not bad at all.

Get the XR400 cam over the stage 2 hot cam. The XR cam is more woods friendly, even hot cams would tell ya that. actually they would tell you to buy a stage 1 but i think the XR cam will do just fine. I have one and it works perfect in tight woods.

i dont want to change bore piston until next season this year im getitnga bigger carb, and it looks like a xr400 cam to get more top and mid but not loose bottom, i also have a k&N timing advance and lrd as far as the motor goes thats it for this year, that shoul;d get me close to 40 hp im hoping then a 416 next year will be it.

The XR cam will give you more top end but not like the stage 2.

The XR is a more bottem end to mid cam..

We just put a stage 2 hotcam in a 400ex and it did loose a little low end. It gained a lot of mid range to top end.

Then we put a 39fcr on it and the low end was better than it was with a pipe and no cam, and it pull hard through the entire rpm range.

If you are getting a carb also, go with the hotcam.

i don't think you will be getting A LOT of low to mid out of that cam. it will give more than stock but i think it will mainly help a little everywhere. thats just what i heard, i don't have any experience with it. i run a hotcam.

I just broke my new motor in yesterday, JE 12.6:1 416, stage 2 hotcam, rebuilt head, that good stuff. I didn't notice any loss in bottom end and all, but boy does it run up top! It's got a sweet hit and pulls as far as I was willing to rev it :D

I would not put the fcr on if you dont want to loose low end,the stock carb work great even on the 500ex.

I had an XR Cam installed in the ole 406 motor. It was ok. I then jumped to a WB All around cam...that one worked even better for me.

If you think that miss is hard to get out wait till you try to get the low end bog out of the fcr.
