View Full Version : Trouble Shifting

02-09-2002, 09:14 AM
Recently, when I ride hard the bike becomes difficult to up shift in the higher RPM's. It shifts fine if i let off the gas long enough to let the RPM's drop almost to idle but I ride embarrassingly slow if i have to wait for that between every shift. I changed the oil as soon as this started happening per my friends suggestion but it hasn't seemed to help. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

do u use the clutch, or jus let off he gas and shift? if u dont use the clutch, u might of damaged the gears, or burned it up, if u an tear the clutch down, try it, jus make sur u hav a manual.

Hey, I almost always use the clutch. Seriously, Like 95% of the time. With that in mind, what am I supposed to do/look for?

I would check the clutch adjustment. The cable might be streched and the clutch won't engage all the way when you pull the lever in to shift.

I went through similar problems on my 400ex, It got to be diffucult to shift and sometimes would not shift at all. It was the shifting rod assembly. I replaced it and everything was fine, They bend really easy. You may be able to tell by looking at youre shifter and seeing if it is bent.
