how much differnce is there ? i know the tapper aint the same , how about the response ?

i was told that it would help w/ the hesitation when you nail the throttle.

The right needle is like having the right main jet. It can be off by just a little or it can be way off and your bike will run like crap.
"Stock" is whatever someone thought you needed when they sent the carb to you, could be one of dozens. You'll have to take it out and check the stamped letters to see what you really have. There's usually five letters stamped on it. The first are invariably OC, it's the last 3 (as in EMP) that identify the taper(s) and sizes.
Try carbparts.com, Keihin, Carb Tuning, Jet & Needle Changes for FCR carbs, then scroll down to 35-41mmm. That's a chart that'll show where your needle stands in relation to others such as the popular "EMP" one.
