Cwad a slipon is all you're gonna need for the motor you have. I would try to buy a good one though. A friend of mine just bought a HMF slipon for his Presator frod Johnny G on here and got a great price also. It really pepped up his bike.

i would go with a big gun quiet series silencer even though it is more expensive

Dose the HMF with quite core produce higher hp numbers over stock, i mean did you notice a power differenc with quite core in the muffler over stock.

Your not going to get alot with a pipe alone but it will be noticeable. Anyone who has one will prolly tell you it's worth it but don't waste money on a pos Big Gun or FMF .

the hmf's are suppose to be pretty good. i just wouldn't recommend a 170 keihin mainjet if your stock besides the pipe. with just that pipe, i would put in a 155 keihin main at the biggest.

I agree with cal about the jetting. Make sure you let us know how it works for ya.

yes that is what their site says. i have heard of people calling them and asking about it and they are now telling people to put in a 165 or something from what i hear. just go out and spend a couple dollars on a keihin 155 and let me know how it runs!! ;)

sorry, i am not saying the bike won't run good. it may run just fine. i don't know what elevation your at or what temps you ride in either. but, i will be willing to bet my bike on a race against the same bikes with the same slip on (given that one bike isn't a terd and both riders are equivalent) and one with a 155 and one with a 170 mainjet in. race one of your friends with a 400ex now and then put in a 155 for me and race him again. race all the way up to top speed and let me know if there was a difference. i am just trying to give you guys some help. lol :)

I've got a 440 with an X-6 ,sparks cam, on choke and airbox mods and I run a 170 main. You can run bigger mains dragracing since it's always wide open but put that bike in the trails for 30 minutes and then look at your plug.
When mine just had a slipon and the welds ground out I run a 155 as cal said.

with a bigger mainjet, you won't sacrafice as much lowend as you will topend. i am not sure why. markeg, i agree with the smaller mainjets. i also had the sparks pipe, airbox mods, and removed choke. go asks sparks what he recommends for those mods?? he will tell you smaller than i recommend. i say a 155 to 158 with your mods. just put a 160 in and try it out and let me know how it pulls compared to the 170. you will notice a difference especially in the last two gears. when i first got the sparks pipe i started at 165 and i felt that the power was not where it should be. i was ready to sell the pipe when i only had 1/2 hour on it. i played with jetting and realized that i was too big. i am into drag racing and it made a difference. however, i race more than 200 ft. i go all the way into 5th gear. it made a huge difference. i personally agree that hmf gives false jetting info. they just want you to be rich so it runs cool. read over some old posts and 90% of their pipe owners on this site agree that their jetting specs are too big. i say a 170 is too big even with a cam/piston combo. i am running a 160 with sparks pipe, no lid, uni filter, ross piston, stage 2 hotcam. i live a few hundred feet above sea level and right now it is in the 40's.
