I'm trying to get rid of my Warrior to get a 400ex. I just wanted to know, how reliable are they and do they have any problems that occur on a lot of them like the 01 Raptor tranny or Z-400 frame? How do they do in mud and hills and trails in general? Do they require a lot or engine maintenance? Do they overheat like my Warrior sometimes does? Thanks a lot everybody.:D

Thanks a lot guys. Alright, for comparison, is it as bulletproof as the Warrior? And what about mud and climbing? Thanks again!

as all my racing and riding friends continue to say....my 01 400 is a true testimate to honda durability.....i race 2-4 hour desert races in hellish terrain, hellish heat.....and my motor just won't quit, and it as strong as it was day one. the engine and frame are about the only stock things on the bike right now, but the only thing i have done to the internal motor is the cam. i actually WANT it to blow so i have a reason to make it better, i just won't tdo it till she blows though. the racing, deseret riding, and dune hours on my engine are countless....just take care of it like everyone else says!

BULLETPROOF You won't regret the switch.... except for the reverse thingy. Sometimes, you'll miss that! :)

Thanks guys, you've been a big help. I only have one more question: how smooth is the tranny in comparison with the Warrior? Thanks for your patience!

Traded my Warrior on a 400 6 months ago and have never regretted it.
Just an all round better bike in every area and you really dont miss reverse.

I don't have much experience with the warrior tranny, but from what I remeber the 400ex shifts like it has 12 more years of technology in it. Besides it's a Honda you will be disappointed.

The only problem you will have is trying to get anything for you warrior, they are pretty low on the market today, the good thing is, so is stock 400ex's. I would look for one that has at least, a pipe, K&N, new chain&sprocket, and a couple sets of tires. They are going for about $2800. If you buy a stock one you will have a grand in getting this stuff if you buy good quality.

My firend traded his Warrior in for a 400ex he doesnt regret it at all (more power, better handling, Better suspension) and all new quads now adays are reliable

I have raced and trail riddin on a 400 ex and a warrior. A warriors transmssion is like ridding on a atc with balloon tires for suspension, its a rough ride. The 400 is one of the smoothest quads out there.
