Does anyone have any idea what the specs(duration, lift) of the TC Racing #924 cam? Also, I would like any input from anyone who has this cam in their EX.....

Im pretty sure that he doesnt release his specs for his cams, but im not completely sure on that.

as for how the cam performs. It has great bottom end. I rode a z and then a stock 400 and mine had about twice the pull. But the cool thing is, this cam aint even built for bottom. Its built for mid and top. And when you reach this point, you better hang on. The hit is almost like a 2 stroke it is so intense. This cam responds great to mods, and it works w/ my motor great. If you want a great cam that reaaaally emphasizes top end, but still has bottom, this cam is for you. Only downside ive had w/ this cam is a small bog on the very bottom end. you got to work the clutch just a tad bit more. ITs worth it to me though

Tom does not give the spec's out to people so they will not copy them. I've heard nothing but good things about the TC cams. They are also a drop-in cam so that will save you some money.

Stupid driver- how do you like you tc 425? what was all in the kit? i am thinking about going with a 425 kit from sparks or tc. I just want the most power that this engine can pull but still be reliable as stock. i am working with C&D right now and it looks good!!!

I like my 425. It has gobs of torque. It rips on top end. I have no problems beating raptors in drags. The power is very usable, yet when you hit the powerband on top, it feels like a 2 stroke. I would recommend this kit to anyone.

What is all done to your 425?

well, i bought the motor used from quadcustoms. But when i tore it down to do the studs, i made a list of whats done to it.

bored to 425
JE 11.1 to 1 piston
Fully ported/polished head
hardened rockers
HD valve springs
Carillo rod
924 mx cam
hd studs

if i were to replace the rod, i would have to split the cases right?
is it worth doing that?

also how does your x-6 pipe work with that? i have heard a lot of good things with the new lrd pipe and how it works better than the x-6.
i am thinking that i will get a new selve that starts out at 425, 12.1 comp piston, cam, hd spring, harden rockers, timing chain, fcr 39mm carb, x-6 pipe or lrd, port and polish, hd studs, and if necesary a new rod.

its not neccessary, but it is a good idea. It aint to terrible expensive either. ya, you need to split the cases. When i bought the motor, i wasnt aware that it had the rod in it. I was planning on ordering a carillo as soon as i got the motor. The reason.... i spent almost 5 months down because my rod blew on my stock motor. I never want that to happen again, and the rod is pretty reassuring.
and for the pipe, i am very pleased with it. They say it is made for a built motor, i now know why they say it. Works very well

btw, w/ 12:1 compression you will want hd head studs as well. My bike was eatin head gaskets like mad before i but the studs in.

ya i know i will need new stronger head studs. Do you think 12.1 is to large? will i be running to overheating problems? i am looking for a real strong mx motor that will pull like a mofo in mid to top but there is no loss on bottom end for holeshots.

Timo, you are gunna be in the same boat as me... RACE GAS. I aint looking forward to it on a trail ride. I think I am gunna buy another dome, so I can interchange them.:)

Good choice on the 426. Are you going to do it yourself or you going to send it out? If you do get motorwork, get an FCR. I have heard great things about them.

With a 12:1 piston I would be getting an aftermarket rod. Might as well do it while you do everything else.

race gas is gonna be needed for a 12:1. i run 50:50 with mine, and it runs great. i tried plain 92, and it started pinging.

but is it worth going that high??
or will 11.1 be okay?
race gas is going to cost a lot, can i run 75:25(race gas: 94) mixture. i like to ride a lot, not really trails but practice on mx tracks and what not..

if it was me, i would do an 11:1 piston. It is gonna be more reliable, cheaper ( causa gas) and it is only going to have a little less power. A 12:1 is great until it desides to take a dump on ya

Even with 11:1 you will still want to mix in some race gas. I plan on running 10.8:1 and mixing it 50:50.

i am running a ross 10.8 piston with thinner gaskets on 92 octane. mine doesn't ping or knock and seems to run good. however, i have never tried race gas in it. also, i have not had any problems with headgaskets or the stock studs.

My ex is bored to 416 with 12:1 compression. I bought the tc cam. It's an awesome cam with tons of top-end power. I am using the stock rod and studs with no problems. I do however run straight race gas and a colder plug. Those two things really help on reliability-head gaskets and studs. If I had it to do over again I would have bored it out to 425 the first time. You might as well go as big as you can with the stock sleeve.
